Having mega gay issues with XBMC remote on both iPad and Android.

It's annoying, because, I got my iPad, enabled ZeroConf, and the chose "find xbmc" on the iPad remote, and it just worked. Then literally, two days later it said it couldn't find it anymore and hasn't been able to since. I tried also on my Android phone and that too fails to see it.

A lot of guides suggest that you still go through the settings of setup the port and username and password, but I can't see that being needed for LAN and certainly wasn't set up the first time I used it.

Any ideas?

Yeah that's what mine's set to but that doesn't work:

Anyone have any ideas why the groups appear first and how to make them appear in alphabetical order?

You must have a setting to "flatten" them if part of a collection, look in video/library settings

Mega gay!! LOL

Try using this on your Android, seems to wok exceptionally well on mine.

Another excellent feature is being able to watch YouTube videos on your moile and then sharing it to your XBMC so it plays over the HTPC!

We'll I'm still having this issue with my setup, this is a last attempt to see if anyone can help before I sell up and go get a WDTV Live again.

Setup: WD 3TB NAS -> Virgin Superhub -> TP Link Switch -> Acer Revo RL70 (OpenElec 3.2.3 + XBMC Frodo).

Everytime I turn the Acer on from sleep it detects an IP of 169.254.213.235. This is a null and void address which doesnt exist. Turning off the TP Link switch and restarting the Acer usually then connects properly and takes an IP of 192.168.0.6 which then connects properly to both NAS and internet.

Tonight I'll be removing the switch from the setup and just trying with a direct link from Virgin Superhub to Acer Revo - to determine if its switch related or OpenElec related.

I have tried setting a manual IP instead of DHCP, the same happens as above, though it does state the IP is 192.168.0.6 but it doesn't connect.

Yatse didn't work either, but it's OK. They all work now :) I found that I had setup IIS on my XBMC box so I could use it as an FTP server. That meant port 80 was being used by IIS so XBMC stopped listening on that port. I could have changed the port for XBMC of course, but as I wasn't using FTP anymore I just uninstalled IIS :) Fixed

Setting up XBMC at work and having trouble getting videos to appear nicely. How can I easily have a folder full of videos with extensions hidden and custom fanart and poster images?

At the moment I've put videos in separate folders with poster.jpg etc but when browsing it then opens up each folder in XBMC, showing a random thumbnail from the video rather than the poster.

If you're using the default skin, I think pressing Left will bring up the side menu, which will allow you to enable library mode.

I'm assuming that you've first pressed C and from the menu chosen "Set Content" on your video folders, to scan them into the library.

No I'm using Aeon Nox. I use XBMC at home and it's absolutely fine with movies but seem to be having real trouble here! I've even set a Smart Playlist to just work on a Path and set a custom menu option to be that but nothing shows. Grr!

I still think it's likely that your Movies folder hasn't been set as containing Movies.

Go to Videos -> Files, find your Movies folder, press C and choose "Set content" or "Change content".

You'll only get this option if you've installed and enabled the correct scrapers - so check in Add-Ons that you've got Universal Movie Scraper enabled.

Got a problem with my sound that I'm hoping someone can help me out with.

I turned on the HTPC last night from standby and no there was no sound when I played about 90% of my files, these include avi/mkv/wmv files. I only used it at the weekend and everything was fine and I've not done anything since I last used it (no updates etc). I've been through all the settings in XBMC and Windows 8 Pro and everything seems in working order. I can play the files through MPC-HC no problem but as soon as I play them through XBMC there's no sound. It's bound to be something simple (it's not on mute) as well. I've followed the guide over on the XBMC forums about sound issues and can't get it to work still. At this rate I'll uninstall XBMC and try a fresh install to see if that works.

Your problem is sleep mode. I used to get a weird issue with mine that if I let my HTPC sleep and woke it up the sound wouldn't work, so had to reboot it.

Look into your BIOS settings for the network port and see if you can enable wake on lan - purely to keep the lan port alive and connected even when sleeping/off. This should hold the connection.

I would also reserve an IP for the HTPC as well.

Got a problem with my sound...

The sound setup can be a little confusing, I've found that when ever I move to a new system and setup XBMC for the first time the HD video will stutter and it's due to incorrect sound setup in the settings.

Try heading over to settings > system > audio output

Usually enabling 'output stereo to all speakers' and choosing the correct 'audio output device' is the best way to start for default audio output to identify/eliminate audio as the problem.

Cheers but I've checked all that. The sound works fine in Windows and when playing through an external player, just wont play within XBMC.

After some searching I came across a thread in the XBMC forums that suggested renaming the guisettings.xml file so that XBMC would create a new one. Lo and behold I now have sound back! Only drawback is that is resets the whole gui but it will give me chance to mess about with some more skins now. Something must have become corrupt in the old settings so I'll have a look through the file to see if I can make anything out.

I have a raspberry pi on the way, I'm used to using XBMC on windows but the RPI is new to me - will probably be going with NOOBS installation as the pi will be set up at my parents house and they're not as tech savvy as me - but would like to install xbmc (will probably be going with openelec) on a USB stick for the extra speed, is there any way to do this with NOOBS or will I need to do a manual install of openelec?

The pi will be outputting to a Samsung amp/soundbar (DD/DTS compatible) then to an LG TV which has HDMI-CEC so fingers crossed will be able to control it with the TV remote, presumably the CEC control will pass through the amp (which also has CEC with its 2 in/1 out switcher)

Anything else I need to be aware of? Already have the folder shares set up with SMB, tested with another PC and xbmc on windows can see and stream from them no problem :D
