*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Thanks, I had read up a little on the sharing types, for the files the pi will be playing I think smb should cope, biggest ones are 12GB movies, no 40GB direct rips. Plus keeping it simple is best, I'm already part time tech support for the parents, don't want to be full time :D

Well probably delve into NFS and an SQL database for multiple XBMC clients and a home server for my own set up in a few months up time.

What skin are people using at the moment? I've been using Aeon Nox 4 but as my guisettings are reset I need to redo everything so now is an ideal opportunity to try out a different skin.

I'm still on Aeon Nox. It's the first skin I changed to when I started using XBMC, and it's now the "right" skin for me.

Everything else I've tried just seems odd!

Same here, I've tried others (mainly Aeon MQ4/5 to be fair) but could never quite get them working the way I wanted so have stuck with Nox

Have you got the correct scrapers enabled in Add-Ons? Once you have confirmed you have, press "C" on the folder(s) you've added, you should then see the option to "Set Content".

There is no Universal Movie Scraper available, and the videos I'm adding aren't "real" movies anyway, they're all self-produced videos, home videos if you will.

In the default Movies menu item it says 0 movies. If I go to Videos, it's blank, but if I go back one (backspace) it gives me Files, Playlists and Video Add-ons. If I go to Files then it shows my added source and if I go into that it then says "2 movies" at the top and shows the correct thumbnails/fanart etc. But I can't get that "view" to be the first view on a custom menu, even if I set a custom menu to be a Video Folder then it's still blank when I go into it.

You'll still need some form of scraper to get anything other than the pure files view you're currently getting.

There is a scraper called "Just Use The Filename" which, as the name implies, just uses the filename to create the necessary entries in the database so that the you get all the niceties and art that you'd get if it were "real" movies.

Universal Movie Scraper and The Movie Database are both installed/enabled now (the latter was already). Can't see "Just etc" in the Movie Information addons group.

Without bombarding you with screenshots, I'll try and explain as best I can!

One folder is added as a source, "XBMC". This is set to contain Movies, all good.

If I go into the default Movies menu item, it shows nothing. Backspace goes to the main menu.

If I set a custom menu item to go to "XBMC/Folder 1", it shows nothing but a blank list with 0 items at the bottom and "VIDEOS" in the top left. Backspace then shows a list of "Files", "Playlists" and "Addons". If I manually browse to the correct folder then once I'm inside "XBMC" the top left changes to "MOVIES / XBMC".

Not sure if this is related to the problem but I don't remember having any problems or issues at all when I setup XBMC at home, in fact I didn't even need to download any custom scraper and I have over 200 films and 10 TV shows all working fine. Argghh!

If the files can't be matched to a film using the configured scraper, there'll be no Movies shown.

There's a link on this page to download the JustUseTheFilename scraper.

Once this is installed (via Add-Ons -> Install from zip file), browse to Videos -> Files, and highlight your source folder, and press C to get up this menu:

Then, make sure that the correct scraper is selected from this screen:

You may then need to press C again and choose "Scan for new content"

Perfect, thanks. Had to remove the source and re-add it again actually but seems to be working now, thank you :).

Unfortunately that scraper doesn't work too well with Shift view in Aeon Nox as it puts the title of the video across the middle of the videos, a la:

It says "Showreel" across the middle if you can't see that! Is that a scraper thing or something else?

Ah, not sure on that one I'm afraid! Usually you'd get the name at the bottom (above "2 minutes" in your screenshot) - do any of the other viewtypes do the same?

Yeah some of them are slightly off. Low List for example, the title is 'outside' of the background gradient and not in-line with the star. Some look fine though, like Big Fan, so I'll have to use that for now at least.

Not read the entire thread,
But thinking in setting this up on a old computer downstairs.
If I want to watch netflix I take it I nee to have it on a windows machine and run netflix thru a web browser?

Is there any advantage of just installing it with out windows?

Seen a few YouTube videos of introduction to it and add on's

How legit is it to uses things like these other add ons to stream tv to watch?

Yeah, Netflix seems to use Silverlight with DRM, and there aren't Linux-based stuff that works as reliably.

Personally, I think just using Windows gives more flexibility and you don't have to worry about the nuances of Linux - especially if you've got a spare Windows licence floating around.

If you're wanting to stream TV as it's being broadcast (ie anything that you'd otherwise watch on BBC, ITV, Sky1, Sky Sports etc), then strictly, you'll need a TV licence.

Please try to keep any discussion of this out of the thread, I do not want it deleted due to this kind of talk.
