*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Hi guys,

Been having buffering problems recently with XBMC. I have had no problems with this previously until this weekend. Every 30-40 seconds the video file playing freezes for a second or 2 then buffers and returns.

Things to note:

- I stream to my HTPC from a media server
- I have tried it on seperate hard drives on the media server
- Tried it locally and it still buffers.
- I have reinstalled codecs (currently using K lite codec pack)
- Streaming to my HTPC directly from my media server just by using windows media player classic has no issues.

So it seems to me its perhaps a rendering/Codec issue? Unfortunately I have zero knowledge with this and it is annoying me! any help or ideas would be great.

On the "zooming issue", I think it's related to the refresh rate. In XBMC you need to set the scaling on each refresh rate. I do this by playing different video files (24hz, 50hz, 60hz) and setting the scaling on each one manually.

Might not be that at all though, but worth trying

Interesting, the refresh rate shouldn't change mid way through playback though would it?

settings - system - audio

Set Audio Output to Analog, this forces XBMC to decode all audio to PCM

Audio ouput: Analog
Speaker configuration: 2.0
Audio output device: Directsound device

Check to see if it still stutters

Will give this a go tonight, thanks.

What is wrong with your MCE remote...? If it has TGB (green button) and you can map the keys easily then isn't that as good as it gets...?

Half the buttons have stopped working. For a budget remote it's ideal so it was almost an automatic purchase, but its actually quite difficult to find one now.

What's a good remote for xbmc on Windows? I've been using a Windows Media Center remote for years and it's been great, but wanted to check if there's anything better before I just bought a new one.

I'm using an Emprex 3009URF, however I also have an Antec Veris Remote but it's IR not RF and didn't feel as good as the Emprex.

They have one in stock here, a MCE remote. Also there are plenty elsewhere. Personally I couldn't be bothered using my phone/ one of my tablets etc I just enjoy using a MCE remote and then map some of the keys to what I want it for.

I've tried CEC before and it fails my "just works" criteria.

Then again it was a bit of a ball ache to get the green button mapped on my MCE remote.

I'm resisting buying a Harmony...

I have a question...

My set-up is XBMC (W8.1) > Sony STR DN840 > Samsung F6670

Now it all works great, apart from if I want sound I have to have the amp on. I have passthrough on to allow my amp to do the grunt work but I don't always want my amp on when I'm watching something.

Is my only option to go in to the settings and disable passthrough in this scenario?
