*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Anyone have any recommendations for solving buffering issues?

Laptop is an i7, 16GBmemory and dedicated graphics so is capable of playing HD files. Audio and graphic drivers are up to date, and laptop is connected via ethernet cable to router

I would ensure that there are no power saving features enabled in the power profiles.

Go into advanced, check that media playback, CPU Max %, etc is OK.

Perhaps select high performance then check the above.

Would also be worth making sure any power saving options/green ethernet options are disabled as well as the XBMC tweaks mentioned in the above thread. Just incase your network drivers are doing anything interesting themselves.

I used to have XBMC installed on Windows 8. However decided to simplify it by installing OpenElec. One issue i'm having on both my installs however is that every now and then the screen seem to "zoom" in which cuts off the top and bottom. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to cause this to happen.

Another aspect when it does this is that list views use massive text which only shows about 6 shows per page rather than smaller text showing up to 15/20 per page. I've taken photos to hopefully try and show what i mean.

List view with very few movies showing.

And a final issue is that i like the poster panel view as below. However some posters don't seem to display properly. Is this to do with a pixel size limit within openelec?

For extra info one box is an Acer Revo R3710 with the AMD Fusion board and the other box is a home built system using the Intel I3 3225 chip on an Asus F7H55 (i think) motherboard and onboard graphics.

Cant help with the problem your having but how much simpler is it than Windows 8 ?

Not much to be honest. Performance is better on the revo which is a bonus.

Main reason to be honest was that I was having some network issues with the windows install and was going to install again to sort and thought I'd try this.

Just be careful about switching over to Gotham. I got all kinds of sync issues, screen resolution issues etc. I am running it on a pulse8 box that's a getting long in the tooth though. Ended up putting frodo back on and all the problems disappeared instantly.

On the "zooming issue", I think it's related to the refresh rate. In XBMC you need to set the scaling on each refresh rate. I do this by playing different video files (24hz, 50hz, 60hz) and setting the scaling on each one manually.

Might not be that at all though, but worth trying

What off the following can be viewed on Xbmc?

Free sat
Amazon
Now TV
Netflix
Youtube
xbox videos

Running on windows is it easy to minimise xbmc and yes win8 for what ever is missing.

What's a good remote for xbmc on Windows? I've been using a Windows Media Center remote for years and it's been great, but wanted to check if there's anything better before I just bought a new one.

What is wrong with your MCE remote...? If it has TGB (green button) and you can map the keys easily then isn't that as good as it gets...?

In my bedroom I use hdmi-cec with my pi which passes through arrow keys play pause etc from tv remote so no extra hardware needed. In living room my n54l has a flirc usb receiver which works amazingly with my harmony remote, would recommend.

I use Yatse app on my Android phone, it's perfect.
The official XBMC one for iOS is supposed to be very good as well.

Anyone looking fr a phone based remote should check out the "xbmc yatse remote" much better than the "official" one and packed with features.

I just use a Logitech harmony 650 for mine, i think it was around 40 quid. I get annoyed having to use separate remotes for everything so being able to use it for XBMC, WDTV, the TV and Amp saves a lot of hassle. It worked with the Virgin Tivo too before we cancelled that and just went back to using Freeview.
