*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

A quick question regarding video quality. I'm running a Intel DC53427 NUC, which has the HD4200 graphics inside.

I'm currently using Openelec but was wondering would I see any benefit in video quality is I moved to Windows 8.1?

I'm using Gotham 13.1 on Win 8.1 and I'm having an audio issue. I came home from work a couple of days ago and we'd had a power cut. When I started XBMC that night to watch something the audio was very low. I'm connected to my amp via HDMI and I normally have to sound on about 40 but since the problem I have to turn my amp up to about 65 to hear the audio properly. If I play the file through Windows on MPC-HC the sound is fine so I know it's an XBMC problem.

I've checked my audio settings and everything seems to be fine, playing through my amp with WASAPI just like before. Anyone come across this problem before?

Are you aware there are amplifying + volume settings in xbmc ? Well there was in Frodo so I'm assuming there still is in Gotham,I haven't looked personally.

When you play a video bring up the audio window, settings are there

Yes I've seen that but it's weird how the sound has just dropped all of a sudden. You can turn it up but too far distorts the audio, then you can save it for all files. Never had to do that before though.

Just to update this thread.. Don't upgrade. I cant seem to get it to stick the resolution at 1080p :( It just changes when I power off the system and you have to unplug, plug directly into the tv to get the hdmi handshake and then plug it back into the amp. Its as if the unit isn't constantly keeping the handshake information within the driver :( Going back to the older version..

Have you reported the issue? Is it still present in 13.1

I can't figure out why my Yatse won't work. I reset the router and the ip address stayed the same on the Pi usually it changes when I do this because I haven't set a static ip.

Why wouldn't you set the server and pi as static? I set them in my router, they both have an Ip set outside the dhcp range.

This will prevent any odd connection issues. Yatse works flawlessly for me

It's in the audio settings when you play a movie.

It's not just the movie sounds that are low, the sound is low when you cycle through the menus as well. It's really bizarre cos it's just happened over the last couple of days. I know where the audio settings are when you play a movie but I've never had to use these before. I might do a rebuild as I've not done that for a while and see if that solves the problem.

Gotham has generally been fine for me except for the add-on tool Advanced Wake on Lan. It will wake up my server using magic packets no problem but then the video libraries will not update once it is awake. The setting for it to update the libraries is being ignored with Gotham.
The built in function in Gotham to update the libraries shows when XBMC is started but ends it's waiting to do so before the 30 or so seconds have passed to start the server.
I have to manually update the libraries for both TV and Movies.
I posted the above in the section for the utility used without response.
Froyo worked fine.
It might be log time and note the above in their support section.

I have had the volume drop spontaneously before just use the + sign key to increase in menu volume. This will have no effect on movie volume if you are using pass through though.

So I am off to the USA in a few weeks and was thinking of picking up some hardware to set up as an XBMC/Streamer.

Do I go down the Ouya route or Fire TV? Or...a cheap NUC box?

Fire TV specs are good but I guess an NUC would give me more flexibility? What sort of spec NUC would I need?

Cheers for any advice

hi all, does anyone use emulators (e.g. MAME) on their XBMC? Just wondering the easiest route as there seems to be a plethora of choices for setup (Linux)

hi

Im a complete noob when it comes to XBMC.

I have just downloaded and installed the latest release on my windows 8.1 laptop, I have also installed navi x addon.

Could anyone help starting me off on this brilliant piece of software, ideally I would like a device that I can connect to my tv and install xbmc onto, like apple TV.

any help appreciated.

I bought a 4th gen Celeron NUC (DN2820FYKH0) with 2GB RAM and a USB stick to boot from, running OpenELEC and I think it is brilliant. Cost around £125 in total and gives me the flexibility, should I want to, in the future to put Windows on it just by adding a hard drive to it.

I got very very tired of chasing jailbreaks with my Apple TV2, updating and not realising I didn't have my blobs saved or some other problem. I think you will find the same thing, however probably far easier to get around, with the Ouya or FireTV. Just my 2p.

Anyone have any recommendations for solving buffering issues?

Laptop is an i7, 16GBmemory and dedicated graphics so is capable of playing HD files. Audio and graphic drivers are up to date, and laptop is connected via ethernet cable to router

And what are you streaming from with what protocol and which version of xbmc are you using?

I've got a NAS box with 2 x 2TB hard drives
Both drives are mounted within Windows and then files added into XBMC
Never had any issues with playback before using this setup

Have downloaded and using Gotham 13.1

Might be worth having a read through of this thread I just found. http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=189561

Quite interestingly it highlights there are various variables in play such as buffer read factor, which it sounds like is set quite low in some versions.

I use OpenElec as an embedded/OS build, and it sounds like the devs of that have set a high read rate to try and prevent buffering issues, at least in the version going at the time that thread was posted.

Still the thread may give you some idea of variables to amend in a config file to help with your issues :)
