***Official Left 4 Dead 2 Thread***

I have phases, at the moment i'm enjoying the team vs games as we are getting some good tactics together and working well as a team as we now starting to learn where the best attacks are and where we are making mistakes and then trying to correct them which I must admit i'm finding really enjoyable.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good game of Ocuk vs as thats really fun, but at the moment I enjoy team vs more, for every 3 rage quits, we'll get a really close game that we have to pull out all the stops for to be able to win and that makes us better as a team (even though I do admit to moaning about not getting the same number of medkits as the first team on 'vanilla' servers, but hey i'm just competative and want to win :D)

yeah, that vanilla server with no mods was great fun... ignoring the multiple mods and 12 player cap..... oh well, we won in the end, probably due to getting enough kits to survive most of swamp 2(I think it was 2) with 3 players

We tried that once in a versus and got absolutely destroyed and are scared to go back now. It's a lot more fun when you are on the winning side :p

But I think thats what makes it more interesting. Sure, we may moan about getting slaughtered at the time but we'll stick with it and learn new tactics which is why I think the team we have is becoming quite good. We don't lose many, and when we do - we try to pick up on where they were attacking and the tactics they were using.

you really need to be playing VS with people you know, not sure if it's possible to actually have a fun VS game on pub, the amount of people raging on team VS is bad enough, and those guys choose to play on the same team

With pubs maybe, but on a vanilla server, no. Vanilla config has got even more laughable than it was on L4D, the only you fail is because its balanaced for those slightly better than utter retards and in pubs you always seem to end up playing with them.

The quotation marks are only for putting it into a config file though are they not? For just typing them into the console you don't need them. Still though, it's very handy to have them as you do.

Yeah quotations are for config files, but you need to remove the spaces between the IPs or it will only ever find the first and if thats full it won't work.

why not play T vs then?

If you're a group of 4 why play normal vs?

You need a server really though, Team Versus is just as laughable when you find medkits every 5 metres.

My favourite tactic is chucking a pipe bomb at the wall as you go up the elevator on Hard Rain 3. Never seen anyone use it before so it always takes opponents by surprise. As you can probably tell by the sheer number of chargers that get stumbled by it.

I take it there's no reason not to alter the config file with the force server commands as I could override it from the console when in game anyway?

I enjoy a bit of everything at the moment. I don't like to be overplaying the same thing. Some nights we go for a bit of a pub stomp for lulz, some nights OcUK Team VS, some nights No Mercy or BH L4D2, some nights a good Team VS game, etc.

Variety is the spice of life. I'm usually up for anything, as Luw knows all too well.

Also, Midnight is the new Steve! - discuss, discuss.

Don't get me wrong i do enjoy a well fought out game against a good team. It makes it that bit more rewarding when you manage to coordinte your attacks perfectly and take out the team.

Sometimes though you have days were its just not happening. Last night for example we were playing the mall map on scavenge and with the 4 of us as infected focusing on the 2 guys going up dropping the cans we just couldnt pull it off. Always seemed to be a fraction of a second too slow and ended up yelling at each other so we just went back to playing indivually and going at opportune moments and we pulled it back.

Unless you autoexec it (Defrag posted how somewhere back... i really should set the configs with an alias so i can trigger them in lobby) you need to trigger it in the first place anyway. And yeah you can just change it once you have.

Well yes but that always happens. We've had matches where you spend too long planning an attack and you just never pull it off. The problem with not jumping in when you get the opportunity and trying to coordinate it on the fly is that the enemies always get further and further as you try to set up a trap. Before you know it they've progressed half the map and you've not even attacked.

That never happens.... honest  Yeah, planning attacks is all well and good if you know you can hit them, or atleast do a lot of damage if you fail slightly (ie. drop into sewer on parish) other than that, you need to wait for your team, and be opportunistic, look at what infected you've got, and work it out on the spot, tell your team mates and try and attack in the right order (you don't want boomer getting shot to knock your charge off balance or something). There's not much "here's what you do in this situation" but more, "here's what makes sense for me right now"

Indeed, the main thing is to have everyone alive. Obviously if you don't have a Boomer but you do have a Spitter, you need to spit on whoever gets taken down by the Hunter/Charger as its the only way you'll really get damage (unless you can simply use it to split them up), otherwise wait and see. If your opponents are quick, Charger makes a great distraction for the Boomer to get in. All it really needs is 2 people to coordinate to begin with unless theres an obvious opportunity, the other 2 can jump in as they see fit.

I should've said lift anyway really :p

Sorry completely off topic but does anyone else get annoyed at how crap the jockey is? Not only is he terribly slow so that if they do see you they can happily run crap blowing you up whilst you can't catch him but he also has no pounce damage.

In scavenge mode i sometimes find myself just instant spawning to die with him in hope of getting sometime a bit better.

He is useless unless the other team is boomered etc, if they are he can be deadly

Well in Scavenge i agree, Jockey isn't that effective unless you can really split them up. But he isn't supposed to do damage... why do people keep thinking that? All he's really for is splitting them up and delaying them. Except the obvious cases when he can make them hang.

The jockey is a huge PITA and really does need to go on a coordinated attack with the team or it is just pointless. Rarely have I seen a jockey hand out the pwn on his own, and only that was due to dead spots in a map where if you don't go as a team or one gets left behind it's curtains.

(Drop down in sewer on Parish 3 for example).

If they work with the team and manage to cart a player off the other side of the map in confusion then it really helps with follow up attacks and "keeping on the pressure" as you force them to split even more buying infected more time to spawn for attack no.2!

His pounce/jump annoys the hell out of me though and is still my most hated AI Infected on Expert/Realism campaigns!
