***Official Left 4 Dead 2 Thread***

i simply cant play the game!
i am getting Pings of like 600-1700!
i dont have this problem with L4D1 or any other game
i have to disconnect from each game within 2-3mins as the Ping gets SO bad

anyone else having this problem?
How the hell do i fix it?
 
Are you definitely connecting to a proper server or just a local game?

Try starting a campaign on one of Link's servers, type mm_dedicated_force_servers 94.23.222.136:29021,94.23.222.136:29025,217.163.30.155:27015

in the console at the main menu screen then set up a lobby and start the game. This should hopefully load you onto a server.
 
Looks like I'm gonna have some fun with the servers soon. Updating ocuk1+2 as we speak. Will sort out sourcemod and ocuk3+4 (both currently borked) when i get back tomorrow evening...

EDIT: OcUK 1-3 all running and updated, without sourcemod however so Insanity Versus is currently unavailable. Will sort it out on Sunday evening. Have fun :)

P.s. Looking forward to trying out this realism versus...

so i have to go through all of that JUST to play the game?
seems stupid - hoping that its just down to the weekend deal and that it will sort itself out, i managed 1 solid game which is good and got the Passing completed but it was on Normal, i prefer Expert :)
 
Nope but it helps. Besides, it's not an awful lot to do, I store all the commands in notepad and just paste them in when needed (though I think others have set up commands in the ini file for the game but I'm not sure).

Basically using one of Link's/Frenchtarts/Defrag's/Ellusionist's servers means you know what you're getting they're also generally stable and have good pings being relatively close.

Also, it's only really relevant when setting up a match so you don't need to worry about it when joining a lobby as the lobby leader will most likely have their own preferences.

I think the problem at the moment though is that there was another update this morning and most of the working servers seemed to be Valve's way over the other side of the world which led to massive pings.
 
I think the 2 usual methods are:

Put them into the autoexec as binds so you can trigger them whenever with a press of a button.
Create individual cfg folders and execute via console whichever 1 you need.

Not exactly hard work tbh.
 
right after a call from BT (ISP) it seems our internet is messing up so it could be the fact that the servers are going crazy with this deal + the fact that my internet is having problems which could lead to the VERY high Ping, but i had a game earlier where my Ping barely reached 90 if that
 
Could just be bad luck/peak times/steve.

I've been having net trouble the last few weeks, seems my router is getting half the upload speed it should (currenly at 256kb/s) which really isn't good when theres 2-3 people online.
 
Im getting odd fps drops, the first one is fine with max settings and this one seems to be mostly ok as well when im playing local but with more than a few players like those bigger versus servers the fps drops horrible, i don't get why because my pings are ok as well, any ideas?
 
Mwahahaha! revenge is sweet. Decided to go back to the original L4D for tonight, joined into an expert run on Death Toll, one of the guys playing was a nice guy, the other two very annoying. For example they would constantly run off on a solo mission, get incapped and then complain, they would steal health items, leave you to die a lot, but the thing that most annoyed me was that they were constantly shooting eveyone, then saying it was an accident.

It got to the point where they started incapping me and the other guy if we were surrounded, i had a word and told them to play properly, they stopped for a while but then started doing it again, even worse than before.

i couldn't be bothered quitting as i'd spent so long on this game, we got to the finale and i was killed almost straight away by one of them to which he said it was 'an accident'. They got to the house and rescued me and started the finale straight away, they then camped up on the rocks whilst me and the nice guy, quite valiantly managed to hold our own in the house. first tank came killed it no problem, second came and a shower of bullets incapped the nice guy and he was killed off by the tank. He was very frustrated, said his goodbyes and left. I made my way to the dock whilst they were shooting the tank, and trying to shoot me. They finished him off and started making their way to the boat, by the time they got to the dock i had boarded.

Just as they got within a few steps of the boat i unloaded on them and incapped them both, at which point the level ended. I couldn't stop laughing down the mic when they were raging at me, i then said 'sorry, it was an accident' and left the game :)

Thats seriously the last time i'm playing with randoms, you get some good games, but most of the time i end up annoyed for reasons like tonight. Gonna just stick with the people from here me thinks ;)
 
I've had pubs like that, i used to play Expert Coop often in random games. There was nothing more satisfying than killing some retard(s) right before the vehicle after they'd spent the entire game being as selfish as possible. My personal favourite was some DT game i joined where in the end, the moment the finale started, i just killed him outright, he then tried to votekick and got 3 no's and we finished the finale very smoothly while he sat there dead hoping we'd fail :D

I felt a sense of loss seeing bill dead on the floor, like when you cat dies or goldfish lol. Not something I feel for any of the new survivros. L4D2 is officially dead I think. I though there was going to be some nice interaction and dialogue with the old survivors, a waste of time them even being in it.

I checked the steam forums and it appears there might indeed be a bug causing some peoples fps to drop in places, is anyone else here experiencing this or know any possible fixes? :(
 
Just got back into gaming again after finishing coursework and allsorts. Playing with randoms yesterday reminded me how much i hate it.. is there a game going on tonight? What time?
