***Official Left 4 Dead 2 Thread***

WE tried to set up a whole group of regular for fun 4 man teams on here and it just died.

Don't really play l4d2 much lately because it got dull, I like playing with the regular guys as it's more fun but not many want to play with us and team versus is so hit and miss it's gets tiring.

It didn't die, it never took off. We had one organised game but evil quit half way in and it never progressed anymore than that.

We had a good game last night, managed to get 8 people and some more online who would have played. teams ended up quite even (although my team seemed to start working together slightly better after the first map and we won all of them after that point :D)

hehe you didn't see all the "man i suck at this game" "I'm soo bad at this game" steam messages from him in that game :p

That's probably because i wasn't on mumble. ;) I asked at the start of the game over in game mic for the mumble details and nobody answered so i just thought **** it then. :(

The problem I had with L4D2 is that you only get to a certain realm of greatness as a team. After that most "top" teams are really evenly matched and it's only circumstance (often dictated by the director) that has any effect on the outcome of the game. Which is balls.

It was the same in L4D but highlighted even more as there were less dynamics involved to differentiate the game play.

Anyway, I haven't played in aaages so if you see me on steam tonight and there are any OcUK "friendly" games going, spam us an inv!

To be honest though it didn't sound like a very fun proposition to team up with some people to face your team who played team VS every night and by consensus won the majority of your games. That's why it never took off.

Think I speak for most people when I say that the most fun to be had in this game is when you play random teams, the game is fairly even, drinks are flowing, and the lol moments occur.

Team VS just sucks the fun out of the game imo.

I also haven't played in a while but would be willing to play a game every now and then if a lols game is occuring.

Disjunto and jimmy, no mention of Insanity Versus? Bah!

Interesting discussion between you though, I personally don't liike the lack of tier 2 weapons outside saferoom in confogl, just makes it too easy for infected players I think. However a lot of other changes are fine. My confogl server adds instakill from witch, advanced fire damage (as standard is pathetic), tier 2 weapons outside saferoom and increased Ghost Infected speed. I think those changes make it a little better.

Insanity changes it a lot more than that, making it quite hard to survive as survivor at all. Quite fun, but we don't have enough good regulars that play atm to use it that often. :(

Been a while since i played L4D2 and i'm probably not the first choice given my 120+ minimum ping for now...

Would be nice to get an insanity going though with random teams. There is no point playing team versus when you know you'll lose before you even begin no matter how hard you try. Being pessimistic is 1 thing but it was a guaranteed certainty.

Problem with T2s is that you can grab the most powerful 1 and make it last the entire level fairly easily. It does get kinda tedious as infected when 4 people exit the safe room carrying AKs and can casually use melee/pistols all game when SI aren't there or run into enough ammo stashes so as to never run out of the 1 hit kill headshot goodness. Would be fun to see the amount of ammo reduced severely and ammo stashes completely removed just so people had to switch weapons more often.

Insanity is so unbalanced it can only be used when heavily under the influence :D

Actually, Insanity is pretty balanced, but it leans on both teams been very good as survivor. Hence the faster recovery time, lower health to make survivors limp. Things that aren't overly obvious, but improve the survivors chances.

In the later days of L4D1 we were playing Insanity quite often for that reason. It actually felt well deserved when you survived. Valve originally designed L4D1 Versus so surviving the levels would be hard, but so many people whined and raged that they dumbed it down, cosntantly nerfing the infected. Insanity just tries to bring that back. :p

IIRC people used to set L4D servers up as forced expert, making a wipe 3ft out of the saferoom possible :) those were the days ;)

Well, yeh. That was actually pretty dull lol.

The days are when I set up the L4D1 Insanity Versus 8v8 server for the first time. And while experimenting with balancing there was expert friendly fire...

No teams made it very far lol, especially with Khan shooting us all in the back... :p

I remember a server that had Smokers tongues at about 20 or 30x the original length. 9v9 and you had about 4 Smokers pulling people across the full length of the bridge on Farm4.

And there was another that basically made it 8v8 and changed absolutely nothing so the Infected didn't stand a chance in hell of doing any damage at all.

So really Insanity is probably 1 of the better balanced out there ><

we play for fun, stepping up a level involves playing competitively... and that gets less fun nearly instantly.

We also find a few decent teams a week on TV, putting up a good fight or actually better than us.

Add me to steam, I'll see if we can get a vanilla,my modded server and a confogl game against you at some point. see which gives the most correct looking end score. I know what confogl is trying to do, and I have no problem with that, but in it's current state it misses the mark completely IMO.

Deal :D

Oooh, bans on record, naughty!
