Why don't they modify Steam so it works like torrent software?

If Steam is updating and you start a game the update pauses anyway, so if you just left it to update it wouldn't matter if you uploaded the files you already had at he same time so others could get them faster.

Because then they couldn't be a digital distribution company. It comes from valve so valve know exactly what is being sent and who it is being sent to.

On the UK servers I was getting screw all speed and the download kept messing up. Switched to Netherlands and its maxing out and Im nearly done. Hoorah for the Dutch! :D

Git, I've been downloading from the Netherlands for ~2 hours and I haven't had much more than 250kb/s

Some people have bandwidth usage limitations and caps.

Curse, mutter and evil thoughts. Finland was a no go for me. Best I have found so far is 140Kbps from Hong Kong. Poor little bits must be knackered by the time they get here.

Edit: Wonder if I still have my old USR v.92 modem about...

A copy of L4D2 - £5.09, a 4 pack pack to play with friends - £15.29, being able to download the game you've just paid for - priceless....

There are some things money can't buy but for the rest blah blah blah
