***Official Left 4 Dead 2 Thread***

I know Virgin do a lot of throttling on their service so it may be that. However you said your PS3 was lag free...

Have you got a cable you can use to directly connect your router to your PC? That would at least eliminate the bad wifi theory.

after leaving everything off at the wall for a good 15-20 mins this time i just had a fully lag free game, and killed about 60 infected with the chainsaw :D lag free, hope it stays like it.

ok i just restarted the modem, most basic thing ever to try :P and the ping has gone down to 59, so im hoping it was just that, will test it out again.

edit: nah its gone right back up again, lag even worse now, sounds like it might be a problem on virgin medias end. Lowest ping in the server browser is 700.

Sounds very much to me like someone on your network is downloading who shudn't be. If everyone is using wireless, change the password so that only you can access it, restart the router and see what happens.

Chances are they are using a torrent program nonstop and if you don't limit the upload speed on those they kill the internet for anyone on that network.

Just about any torrents will absolutely kill any internet access, no matter the download speeds in my experience. having said that there was the time I was downloading the Star Trek online beta client and was maxing about 250kb/sec so I thought about playing some MW2 just to see what it was like. next thing I was the host about 4-5 rounds in a row. With the download still running.

whats the vs gameplay like on this? cant play any tonight as im not at home, will give it a go tommorow.
Versus is very good fun provided it's with people you know as revenge and accidental incidents make it so much funnier. Public versus is still fun, but less so in my opinion.

Also, people who've played a lot can single handedly unbalance a team I've found.

Well, 150ping or less ideally. But no amount of low ping can make up for how truly terrible some people are ><
I find anything above 100ms is a bit too much for expert as bullets tend to just not do anything and zombies seemingly hit you even when they should be out of range.

However, yes, some players are... shocking to say the least. I don't even mind people who are new to the game and genuinely don't know how to play - at least they're trying. I know some (who are sadly on my Friends list) that have played the game for a long time, but are just plain bad at the game.

All it takes is a little common sense; such as crouch as much as possible - i.e. for shooting and when you're getting mobbed (so as other can easily shoot over your head and help), use the right click push as much as possible especially when reloading (but don't over do it and kill your stamina), try to keep near a wall or corner especially when a horde comes and just don't get in the line of fire - friendly fire is probably the biggest killer on expert.

Some just cannot understand this and decide to run off on their own and they just die, to which I'm glad as it means 1 less dumbass to cover :)

Well i have roughly 130-160 and i manage :p

But the SI hit you when they aren't in range all the damn time even with low ping >< Only time it really becomes a problem is when you have to push through infected during certain events.

Hah, clearly you're more pro than me :)

I actually know someone from Russia that I sometimes play expert with and he has a ping of 400 odd. No idea how he manages it quite frankly.

I don't find the SI too bad, it's only the jockey that takes the p*ss. His leap on expert is ridiculous, he literally warps on top of your head from about 50m away.

Making the game hard is fine, but making it so that SI blatantly cheat is another.

The Jockey does indeed telejump onto your face... next to impossible to melee it too. Plus he absorbs a stupid amount of damage. Hunter is the worst though, always has been because of that damn ninja melee. Was playing a game a couple of days ago where the Hunters 'panic' jump actually made him leap AT me, pushing me back into the corner with my only remaining ally and instantly slashing and incapping both of us... *******.

It's not so much the download speed you need to worry about, it's the upload speed.

Hahaha I do love moments like that, it's what make L4D2 (particularly playing with friends) absolutely great.

Was that on the recent Hunter mutation, Hunting Party, where that happened? That mutation was funny-hard.

It's interesting that some of the SI secondary attacks (i.e. where they claw away at you) seems to be more damaging than their main attack. The Charger can be easily dodged, but sometimes he doesn't charge and just follows you whilst punching - that does so much damage. Similarly for the Jockey and as you say, he has such high health and weaves around making it very hard to land a hit.

Was just a normal versus, Hunting Party Expert is good fun, did a NM and i'd killed 90+ hunters by the end.

Charger AI is so incredibly bad. He charges at you, ignoring the fact theres an object in the way. He attempts to charge through walls. He charges into objects next to him in the completely wrong direction. Getting charged by the AI is very rare...

I didn't get to try that mutation on expert unfortunately as I played with people who only play the game very casually, it was surprisingly good fun.

Over 90 hunters though, what? :D The most hunter kills I've had was about 60 odd I think and that was on the Hard Eight mutation where 8 SI spawn at the same time. It's still the hardest mutation that I've played.

Yeah, Chargers seem to like charging into poles and lamp posts which makes them stupidly easy to kill. Poor Hillbillies...

Hey, just got this game. Looking for some people to play with. Joined the OcUK group, can I join people who are playing if they are not my friends? Or do I need to start randomly adding people off the group?!

you can join but if they're not your friends you'll need to alt-tab into the steam browser thingy, open the OCUK group and then try to join someone in the group. it'll say 'join game' beside thier name.
