*** Official Mass Effect 2 Thread ***

I think the best deal about atm, personaly, is EAstore with the VoucherCodes.com25% discount code.

Can start pre-loading tormorow and is about £34 for the Digital Deluxe Edition.

Think thats what il be doing, and if it pre-loads ok and plays ok, I'l do the same with BC:2

Same for me I think, gonna cancel retail order today and go with EAStore + VoucherCodes.com25% as a voucher.

Unless Steam spring some four pack goodness on us.

Doubt it. That offer only fits certain types of games - Borderlands (4-player co-op), Bad Company 2 (4-player squads), BioShock (haven't the foggiest), Left 4 Dead 1+2 (4-player co-op)

Bioshock could just be because a) it has a multiplayer component and b) the discount is a very persuasive way of getting people to pre-order digital copies in bulk. ME2, it won't happen. That said i'd take Steam over the EA store any day of the week.

Word of warning - do not go to the Bioware social site if you don't want the game spoiled for you.
It's madness over there. Thankfully I only just skimmed the first sentence of a spoiler paragraph. I'm staying away from there until I've played the game.

I thought the Bioware site didn't have a spoiler section yet since the games not out.

Oh i think i understand... its full of morons posting spoilers in the main section no doubt.

Its sad it really is. There are reasons to pirate, whether you like it or not, but to then go and spam spoilers on the official forum just has no excuse.

According to this (now locked) Steam topic: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1119629

North America users can now pre-load the game while the rest of us will be able to pre-load it 48 hours before the games release.

This sucks! I pre-ordered from GamersGate because I could get it for £25 using a discount code, but on their site it doesn't seem to be released until the 29th - and pre-load is 6 hours before release.

Edit: oh it's released in Europe on 29th anyway. But 26th in US. That's bloody brilliant...

Annoying it's been leaked and there are ******** out there ruining it for people. Thankfully I've managed to avoid those.

i wish they would try to release games asap after they are leaked
i could have the leaked version in under 2 hours but im forcing myself to wait for the steam version that i paid for instead :(

How does the EAStore work? After ME2 is installed do you have to have anything in the background or use another program to start ME2?

Just wondering if I can get it working well with Steam as a foreign game and only lose out on things like Steam patching.

Still not pre-ordered this

Same it is very annoying :( .

It is also a bit disappointing that steam won't release it on the 26th same as the americans.

If you download and install using the EA download manager, the download manager may (or may not) start up every time you play the game. It won't affect anything if you're offline though. There is a way of trying to avoid the download manager starting up, though it may not work. Out of the 9 games I have installed in the way below (including The Saboteur and Mass Effect) only Medal of Honor Airborne is annoying enough to need the EADM to start up with it.

What you should do (and what I'll do since I can use my serial to download using the EA download manager, and it's faster) is:

- download ME2 using the EA download manager
- once it's done that, it won't automatically install. It will display text saying "install"
- navigate to folder the game files have been downloaded to, usually a folder in C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Core\cache\
- close the EA download manager and use the EA setup file in the above folder to install ME2. You may have to paste the serial number EA emailed to you, as the EA download manager automates this process and puts the serial in for you.
- let the game install, activate and start up. It shouldn't require the EADM to start up with it, though you will have the option to start the game from the EADM. It will appear in your Windows Games Explorer list like any other game.

If anything goes wrong, you will still have the option to install ME2 from the EADM, as long as you haven't deleted the contents of the download folder or used the option in EADM to clear cache. But after you've checked your install is a success you will want to think about backing up the files or deleting them from your PC, as they and the eventual install will take up 14GB (28 GB if you count the downloaded files)!!!!

How can you rationalise a demand that they change plans because the game was leaked and is available for pirating?

I think you can rationalise it easily. Though I won't be pirating it myself, I can understand the need to get my hands on it as soon as possible, especially if there is such an option out there. If someone hasn't pre-ordered the game and want instant gratification, they could well decide to pirate it. If Bioware offered it for download now, then they'd remove the need to pirate for some.

They're not going to though, as it would require more admin to authorise retail outlets to release early too.

That'd screw over physical vendors who may or may not have had their stock delivered yet.
