** SPOILER **

No no. The Collectors laid the trap. They sent out a fake Turian distress signal and pretended to be damaged so that Shepard would come aboard and investigate (presumably so they could capture him/her).

The Illusive Man knew it was a trap as the Cerberus computers flagged up that the Turian signal was fake.

However he didn't tell Shepard as he wanted to make the Collectors believe they had been fooled, while sending Shepard in to collect as much info as s/he could.

He knew it was a trap, but didn't tell Shepard as he felt it was a risk worth taking to get info on the Collectors, and he couldn't risk Shepard refusing to walk into a trap.

I hope it runs ok - I just purchased ME2 this morning and my system is quite a bit less powerful than yours! :D

Should run fine, absolutely glides round on mine (rig in sig) at max settings 1080p.

Good old Unreal 3 engine.

Indeed, surprising how the lack of AA improves game performance. Enabled Fraps to take screenshots every 10 seconds - the lack of AA makes some that would be great, look terrible.

It's not noticeable when in action, even with Bloom+Film Grain disabled, which is nice. Shame there's no post-processing options for screenshots, some of the starting sequence would make excellent backgrounds.

Anyway to increase FOV? Feels like I'm playing on a console.

Also, I played ME1 on my 360, so I won't be able to carry across my character. Will I be missing out by starting a new character?

Yes, in a way. A lot of little things carry across that make the experience better, like bumping into minor characters or hearing about them on the news. The fate of the expendable characters in the first game will also be set for you.

I replayed the first on on PC to get my 'canon' save, but there is a website that offers save files if you want to pick a certain set of outcomes:

The game look so horrible without AA, I changed the main game file to UT3.

My AA is at 8x everything is on except for film grain, no lag at all.

Hmm, that's interesting. Only read below if you want to see how decisions may affect your game.

At the door you need as many people loyal as possible so that they defend the person closing it.

I don't actually remember the story, characters or any of my choices from the first one, so not sure this will matter :p

The lighting is great

Thankfully I haven't had any problems with AA, I forgot to turn it on once and it looked nasty

If only the planet scanning wasnt such a grind, otherwise Im loving the game

Are you forcing AA on through your GPU control panel? It seemed to have no effect on the first game, just wondering if it does on this one?

Just about finished downloading it now.

One question: I have a level 38 character from the first game - is it worthwhile carrying him across? What are the bonuses, apart from the relationship stuff? He never bonked anyone, but he did have an absolute buttload of great weapons and a fair bit of cash. I considered running through it again with the same character, to familiarise myself with the story, but not sure I can be bothered!
