*** Official Mass Effect 2 Thread ***

Items have been reworked you no longer have an inventory, so to speak, so you dont get a massive amount of guns or armour, somewhat limited actually.

This is the one thing i liked about the first, Loot, Gun setups and armour types. I know a lot of people hated it because of the amount of stuff you had but why they would only limit you to a few guns is beyond me, the first had tons?!!.

ATM i prefer the first game to this. No micro management or advanced squad commands, some of the squad members are useless and what happened to the hud stats for your squad? In the first you would have to keep them alive, now i find they die and i just revive them and keep fighting?

It might just be me but it feels like EA's doing?

I'm missing weapon upgrades too :( there should be more skills rather than ammo types.

The Blood Dragon & Inferno Armours are useless after a few missions of collecting armour upgrades from vendors, got a helmet that does +10% headshot damage, combined with tactical cloak can pretty much one-shot most shielded enemies on hardcore

Also, 10 shots - what the absolute ****?

Seems like EA are getting more and more involved as a publisher, which is bad news. They barely touched ME1 and it was brilliant!

Anyone know if you can just get the .exe files for other DLC and it'll work? I'm assuming you need it tied to your account & the .exe for it to work. Weapons are few and far between and could use some of the pre-order bonuses.

Got this last night, played for 2 hours and I'm very impressed. Runs very well and seems very polished for an EA published game. I didn't get on with ME1, I think I just got bored. This seems to be much easier to play.

I actually restarted ME1 yesterday (after completing and loving ME2.) I wanted to go through it thoroughly and carry my character over to the 2nd game, however after playing about 5 hours of it... I don't think I'll be able to manage. I just don't like ME1, it feels broken to me like it needs a new script writer, better director and more natural NPCs, environments and a more balanced pace to the story.

I also had problems with it not allowing me to use 5.1 sound with x-fi on vista, and the absolute woeful blotchy-pixelated textures on characters and NPC clothing and other textures.

I think I'll have to just plow through the main quest :o

Are you on that ship that's hanging on the edge of a cliff? If so that's bug city. Search for it on the official forums :(

Only way out is to reload from save, though in a master-stroke each time you go somewhere you have a 'restart mission' save so hopefully you won't be too far back.

yep thats the one :( ah never spotted the restart save ill have a look thanks

Sometime's sprinting can get you out of a buggy place btw.

tried that but it didnt work, even tried a Team fortress 2 styleeee rocket jump but no luck there either :p

Just quicksave all the time. Its an irritating bug but you're well protected if you hit F5 every minute or so.

If you're close enough to an NPC bringing up a conversation will snap you out of the levetation. I keep getting it when approaching the galaxy map but a quick chat with that maid who acts as the secretary brings me back to the ground.

I can honestly say, that out of 22hrs+ of game play i've never once got stuck on anything

Is this worth getting if i havnt played the first?

Yes.

Starting to get the hang of the combat now, mostly now i've changed Sprint and Pause back to what they were on ME1 so i don't keep pressing the wrong 1! Also Heightened Adrenaline Rush is awesome.

That annoyed me the most in Mass Effect 2, the controls all changed. I was also annoyed that the way the equipment, the pause screen HUD etc had changed, i liked the way it was in ME1 and all i wanted was a follow on of the storyline, nothing more but Mass Effect 2 is still brilliant.

I think I prefered the weapons before. The only issue was figuring out which was best and selling them all the time, but this is a standard break and butter element and although the upgrading is great I think in ME3 they should offer more variety of choice rather than just one upgrade option.

I mean where did all my unique spectre items go?

I didn't really pay much attention to the first game, but then decided to give it a blast before I got the second. Shocked I didn't play the first one through when I first got it; epic game.

I'm currently playing through the second as Vanguard and my observations thus far are:

  • RPG Elements have been vastly simplified
  • Bit disappointed that only the Soldier has access to rifles
  • Controls have changed somewhat, slightly confusing from coming straight from the first game
  • Weapons actually have limited ammo now - Kind of liked the first game and how you essentially had unlimited ammo.

Other than that minor points above; I'm loving the game so far.

That annoyed me slightly too as I'm playing through as infiltrator but:

SLIGHT SPOILER:
On one of the missions you can choose to have assault rifles as an additional skill.
