**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

Development of this sim seems to be progressing quickly. Released shortly after the beta, country updates not long after release and now vr next month
I was just thinking earlier that they do seem to be churning out the world updates at a pace, add to that the VR addition and other updates they must be working their socks off.

Probably because they churned the game out before it was ready and I would imagine the updates were already in hand. We are all glorious beta testers... I do wonder if some of the free work done by people releasing on the various sites is getting incorporated into the updates with the authors permissions. Or if they monitor what is being done and it’s popularity to tailor the updates

Hello all, just picked this up,
Any advise welcome,
Seem to be getting the odd freeze frame that I would like to get rid of obviously lol,
Specs
I7 9700k
3080
32 gigs of ram

Any suggestions?
Cheers

I bet your CPU is in fact maxxing out if your GPU isn’t... you can’t look at overall CPU usage and see the full picture because it’s just the main thread that tends to be the problem. As an extreme example consider something that worked on a single thread - even when that thread is totally maxed out at 100%, for a 16 thread CPU it would only show 6.25% overall usage.

Enable developer mode, go to the options part and enable frame rate display - I’d bet that at least when you stutter it is main thread limited (and as I say probably always the case if your GPU isn’t close to 100%).

Try caching an area and flying around to see if you still get stutters, it might be related to the loading in of scenery. Alternatively try turning off photogrammetry and see if you still stutter.

Gpu is around 80% give or take, sometimes higher sometimes lower,
im not experiencing any stutter, just this odd freeze, maybe 2-3 times every 5 mins,
Ive noticed when it happens gpu usage hits 0% for a second, if that,
No issue in any other games, silky smooth frames,
yeah i tried turning off the data settings and photo settings, so far issue still remains
90 fps!!

Is that a typo you should get around 40
nope thats what im seeing mate,
i tried the preset ultra and high end, was about 75fps, then while trouble shooting this issue i got GeForce to optimise settings and then hit 90 ish, odd as it seem to raise the settings, but apart from thes freeze it does not really ever drop below 70's,
Not been to any cities yet and im at 1440p, not 4k

Sorry but I assumed 4k, still seems high though anyway have fun.

Did a touch more testing last night,
Seems one core is maxing out and the others around 30 to 50 %
When the freeze happens seems there is a brief sudden drop in the cpu and gpu usage,
Looks like single core performance is key here, I've tried limiting fps but the issue still remains,
No issue in the other games so for now think I will have to live with it, it's not a game breaker more of a annoyance

How fast is your internet connection? it wants to be about 60MBPS, i get the odd stutter but I found in the setting the download cache was at 8GB i think as standard, so I cranked that figure up a lot assuming that if it was that downloading to a smaller cache that may be causing it and I was in effect flying out of the cached area before it had time to update? does that sound plausible or am I rambling?...

I'm not sure pal what maybe the exact root cause, I have sky fibre internet, it's a 80 down 20 up connection,
I tried to cache a area for 20 mins going round in circles but did not fix it,
Yeah I've tried turning off all the live data stuff and problem remined, so it cant be anything to do with internet i dont think
