**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

What are your pc specs?
Pretty much top end now - 3090, 11700, 32gb of fast ram, nvme drive etc etc. The game runs very very well already in 2d mode as you might expect, it’s just VR is a special case for this game, and even rigs like mine struggle. I’m hoping this magic update will have a big effect on VR performance.

The other main ‘problem’ with VR generally is, once you’ve played a flight sim using it, you can never go back to pancake mode.

Biggest issue is functionality i.e. reading the panels in VR. XP11 is better for that. Even 2d MSFS panels are hard to read.

That’s loading times, and tbh, it’s not much different on PC.

Didn’t look quite as good as PC ultra settings though when he went into a flight.

I can't wait for this update too. Feeling a little bit deflated after getting my new 3060 ti yesterday, and still seeing abysmal fps and stutters when flying near cities or larger airports. I knew it was main thread limited in parts, but it's far worse than I anticipated. There is basically no fps gain over my vega 56 around cities and larger airports :( I very nearly went for the CPU upgrade first. Maybe I should have done. I can't quite believe it's so poor on a 7700k at 4.9GHz.

At altitude it is great though. I now have a 5600X and new motherboard in my basket with my finger hovering over the buy button...

You should see some of the biggest gains this week, those that are GPU limited will probably see less significant gains I would guess (though hopefully better lows and less stutter).

The 5600X would however also be a nice upgrade… if you are buying specifically for MSFS though perhaps just hold off until the update drops in a few days.

If you can get the 5800X, MSFS is going to be tweaked to take advantage of extra cores soon.

I wondered this, but it's 50% more money for 2 more cores/4 more threads. In the benches I've seen the two CPUs have the same FPS with a 3090. If things do improve for the 5800X I'm not sure my 3060 ti will take advantage of it anyway.

Yeah, going to wait to see what the update brings. It is really frustrating to see CPU and GPU utlisation both hovering around 50% but barely cracking 30fps at 1440p.

In their last Q&A session I'm sure I remember hearng one of them saying that when the Xbox version comes out the PC version will support DX12 and also everything you see in the Xbox previews will be available for the PC version too.
In the Xbox previews a couple of the things I have seen are wakes on the water and smoke from the wheels when landing, so that will be two things that are missing at the moment

I've heard talk that things like the processing of the glass panels will be moved onto their own threads on the cpu which should help performance. ObsidianAnt on YT has some vids up showing Xbox S/X performance, which seem close to 30fps even while over NY or LON. Looking to pick the prog up on PC - I ran it on release last year through the Game Pass, but on a i5 4690k, DDR3. It needed some optimisation so I'm hoping for improvements through the next update. I've upgrade a little since then.

I’m currently running a 3900xt with hyper threading disabled so the virtual threads can’t be used.

It may be that a 5 series chip is needed though for this game.

#3 more days

I can't believe they still haven't fixed the bug on the big jets, where the FMC loses your flightplan and the AP is all disconnected on reloading a saved flight.

Took a small prop up today using weather force for weather, same as normal. Absolute quality atmos, but when I got right into the thick of the storm with total cloud, mist and lightning, my FPS crashed to literally single digits. Went back up again when I escaped the weather.

Does this happen to anyone else, or do I have a problem somewhere?

Not using Weather Force but I have noticed that certain weather patterns/types have a huge impact on FPS; I think its the clouds but I can't be certain.
Looking forward to the update this week and I hope its going to give us the performance updates we're hoping for; it looks really good on Series X
