**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

I would seriously doubt it, you don't own any of the titles you access via Game Pass, you are essentially renting them, and they can be pulled at any point at the descretion of MS. I'm pretty sure you would actually need to own a copy of the sim in order to be able to upgrade it. I imagine that upgrades for purchased copies will be avilable from the storefornt, but MS have said it will be more cost effective to get the version you want rather than upgrade at a later date.

You can buy DLC for Game Pass titles. I own the Forza Horizon 4 Ultimate Add-Ons Bundle despite not owning the base game.

The statement on the FAQ is pretty meaningless. All they have to do to make it true is sell the DLC for £70. That would make the UE £10 cheaper than buying the base game and DLC. But if you have Game Pass, you'd save £50 by just buying the DLC, and would simply have to accept that if the base game drops off Game Pass, then you'll need to buy it. But that moment could be years away, by which point the base game may be quite cheap. As an Xbox Game Studios title, I'll be surprised if this isn't on GP for ages (I can't think of an Xbox published game that has dropped off yet TBH).

Who says it’s more GPU dependent? The last was CPU.

Someone I know ran a quick sanity check last week.
The system was an 8 core 9700 with a 2070S.
The GPU was basically maxed out. The CPU was running just under 50%, however, that load was vaguely evenly spread across ALL 8 cores. MS have got this game really making use of multi-core, which basically means that an AMD CPU really should be the default choice, such that they majority of the funds can be thrown at the fastest GPU available.

Yes the use of cores is definitely good in this sim. Unlike P3D and XP11 who load up one core to the max and use little of the others, it always felt like that was a big restriction.

How much of an effect do people think RAM will make with this game? Appreciated its hard to know without the game being released yet, but I've got 16 Gb and wondering 32 Gb would be that much of a deal. RAM is kinda one of those things where you just forget about it even existing half the time.

The system mentioned was using circa 18GB whilst I was testing. I’d say 32GB would be an appropriate no

I am looking to get this when released.

What is a decent starting point from a control point of view?

You'll have lots of viewing options - probably best to have a look through them and see what you like the look of when you're in game. Lots of people who fly on simulations like this will use the cockpit view e.g. the view you'd have if you were sitting in the left seat of a real aircraft.

Thanks, sorry I meant actual control options to fly the plane - so joystick etc.

I think ideal is a flight yoke and separate pedals and throttle piece. But a decent flight stick should do the basics fairly well. I’m afraid I’m also researching what flight stick is best bang for buck. So no idea myself of a good one.

Ha I'm sorry. Completely misread your post.

Joystick will be fine. If you're buying one, make sure it has a twist rudder option. When you're ready to upgrade, you can buy a full flight yoke, separate throttle controls with mixture and prop. Controls. Radio stacks and much more.

Thanks - Sounds like another money pit, just like I-Racing :)

Oh well, bring it on I guess :)

Well managed to get a x56 hotas flight stick in time for release.
My i5 4690k and GTX 970 will have to do for now until I get round to building a new system.

,
I have seen good video reviews for the Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus Edition, you can even swap it for left or right handed use

The TCA sidestick looks great and the other add-ons when released will be a great addition to the realism but with out breaking the bank.
