**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

Getting controls set up is a bit of a nightmare. I have an X55 HOTAS and it doesn't have any default configuration straight out of the box. No mapping option for throttle axis either ....

I have an x55 and had trouble with this. It can be done mate. Set Filter to all, make sure throttle is chosen and under power management>throttle> throttle axis. make sure its sent to Joystick L-Axis X

I've played about 5 hours so far. 2700x with 2070s, 16gb ram on nvme drive. Performance is good, but mixed. I've seen frame rates as low as 20 on 747 flying for some reason, and average of 60 on smaller planes normally, this is on high settings at 1440. I have had two crashes to desktop so far in this time though. I have done all the training and played a few challenges etc. Playing with Xbox controller, fun for a complete novice so far.

The last time I tried a flight sim I was very young. I found it frustrating. This looks good. Is it easy to get into one as an adult or does it require weeks of reading stuff just to get off the ground? :D. Is it worth going for the top end Premium Deluxe? Not read up on it all fully yet but extra aircraft and more detailed airports?
Am going use MS game pass to get the standard version first to see if i enjoy it and play it enough to make it worth spending over hundred quid for the Premium Deluxe version..

I downloaded with only 1 issue. I had removed some of the Windows Xbox software, so was getting stuck on the press any key to start screen. Once I reinstalled that it downloaded quickly within an hour or so for the 90gig. I do have a decent connection and found no issues with the download.

The game suggested Ultra settings and I went with that. Only played for a short time but seems good to me. Ordered a joystick that's coming tomorrow, as the keyboard is pretty tricky to make slight movements.

Will have a better go once that arrives but delighted to be able to try it for a quid, is a great option.

I do have a decent spec pc, all seems pretty good so far but I am a novice so not sure why bad would look like! Certainly no slowing down etc for me so far.

Anyone tried using a MS Force Feedback 2 Joystick ?
do these over 20 year old joysticks still even work in windows :D can't remember now if it has a USB or game port connector

Think i still got mine in the loft somewhere (But Not sure if i still have the power suppy for it :()

With all of the assists on it’s very easy to get flying. Looks like you can go pretty deep with the realism if you want to though but it’s not necessary.

I'm using an old Wingman joystick, had to do a custom map for buttons, but can't seem to get the analogue slider working with the throttle - any ideas peeps?

@cavllino the above works of course but you don't need to use afterburner, you can just press win + g for game bar and then choose performance from menu at top (you can pin in place so it remains after leaving the gamebar menu, and adjust transparency etc.

edit - if it doesn't display FPS at first, click on the FPS counter and enable expanded user account control access.

I have the exact same joystick, the flight sim doesn't have any control presets for it and when I tried to set it up it registered the joystick but not as an analogue stick so basically unusable because when you push the stick forward back or sideways it only has one register and that is only when you push it right to the end and its just pushed or pulls at max. I knkw its old but pretty disappointed.

Getting a framerate of around 15fps in New York in a Cessna with a 4950x, 64gig ram and 2080ti. High settings not ultra. 3840x1050 res. Looks like I need a new PC and I've only had this one a week.

Thanks...Sounds like it not worth me going up into the loft to look for it..
(My loft a pain to get up into as it has no ladder so i got climb on stuff :D)

that sounds janky... you had a look to see what your GPU/CPU usage is like at that point?

I'm assuming you aren't a time traveller and mean 3950X

Sadface. The FF2 was brilliant for flight sims. Think I game mine away in the end.

Does no one make anything similar any more? Being able to feel the pressure on the control surfaces through the joystick, going light close to stall etc...it really worked well.
