**** Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Thread ****

With my system, I'm getting around 30fps in the cockpit sat on the runway at Heathrow no matter what setting I use. Screen res, low, ultra, whatever, nothing changes the performance. The dev tool indicates "limited by MainThread". Core 0/thread 0 is at around 70-80%, all other cores around 35%. Both CPU and GPU seem to be ticking over compared the how they run when playing other games. The system and GPU RAM is not being fully utilised. It's like the CPU core load is not being balanced correctly and core 0 is limiting performance.

Interesting that the dev tool says that. I pretty much have the same thing where my CPU and GPU are not being utilised. Others have it too. Surely something that will be patched...

To be fair it is just a glorified scenery generator, a career mode with some goals would be nice. I find google earth in vr fills my scenery generator needs.

It's a flight simulator though, they're all the same when they're first released. You're basically paying for the flight model. It's down to the modders now to make millions from add-ons :p

Personally it feels like this product was rushed to be published. There is no GPU that can comfortably hold good performance, only handful of controllers will give you somewhat realistic experience. Most aircraft are in similar prop range, lack of livery, no red bull air course, autopilot broken, gliders would be amazing for the scenery.

I've watched many videos of people running it smoothly - But as with most of the FS games in the past, they're built to last and this version of FS is clearly built for the next 10 years in mind. They've promised continued updates and development for years to come. However, in saying all that, I did think the "extras" that you get with each package were a little slim pickings - As you say, I would have liked to have seen some more planes/events like the Red Bull course and gliders.

But I can hardly complain - I pay £3.99 (I think?) a month for Game Pass - I think you'd have to be a bit mad to buy the game outright at the moment, but each to their own.

I'd like a 737 Dreamliner too ha!

It depends, you probably won't get full blown training-quality 3rd party commercial jets for £25 though. On other sims they can go for up to £100.

This product will never be finished. I would be disappointed if the current (soon to be superseded GPUs) could handle it easily.

How would waiting longer to develop make not using a hotas or yoke more realistic?

Am pretty disappointed with the scenery mapping in this

I was expecting the mapping to of been far better then it is
(maybe seeing youtube trailers and google earth just got my hopes up far to high)

Yeah, flight sim has always needed specialist controllers (joystick at least). Nothing to do with this one.

Flight simulator has prompted a computer upgrade for me at least - I think last time I upgraded was for better performance in FSX too. Ryzen here I come. To be fair I'd been debating upgrading for the last couple of months anyway but was waiting to see how this ran first. Whilst I've got it in a perfectly playable state (crashes to desktop aside), usage is equal on 4C/8T and the developer mode shows Limited by MainThread almost constantly.

Pick somewhere with good scenery. It’s incredible

I’d be gutted if I had worked on this project reading all the forums.

you can try it for £1.

Unfortunately all the noobs were expecting something completely different (beyond the incredible scenery tech) from the other MSFS releases.

Got a glitch in one of the tiny planes last night that increased its speed around x 50 and let me ascend straight up into the edge of space 150,000 feet high. Couldn't help thinking how great adding the Moon, Mars and spacefight would be in this engine, like a more realistic Kerbal Space Program.

Indeed. I flew around Southampton/Portsmouth earlier as they're photogrammetry areas (the only ones in the UK) and to get this level of detail by default, for £1 (£3.99 a month), is insane compared to the alternatives:

I went to uni in Southampton and it's crazy how much I recognise from this shot. That's not even Ultra mode either.

This has 100 other things going on AND scenery approaching Google Earth level.
Flying and looking around the island i live on (guernsey) is nothing like google earth levels of detail or what the island is like

Like i said i think i just got my hopes up far to high and expected something far better..

Had a quick go on this last night. Using an Xbox controller and doing some of the training scenarios, and the planes reactions to any input was extremely jerky. A settings issue, a controller issue, or a Cesna issue? Have others found the same?

Bing maps are absolutely crap. The UK isn't even mapped properly, the only place mapped property on Bing maps (on the UK) is Bournemouth.

Go fly round Bournemouth and you can see the difference. Majority of the USA is mapped properly as well, fly around New York or LA for example.

I mean, the most obvious thing is to turn your controller sensitivity down?

This game cost £60 not £1 similar Netflix gives you access to movies with budget of 10mil or 20k no difference. Don't get me wrong whoever is responsible for scenery is a genius but call it "scenery simulator" not flight simulator because noobs like me who have experience flying real Cessna 152 or 172 will scrutinize your "flight simulator" aspect. With scenery they went forward with flying backwards.
