----------Official Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Thread----------

After playing the demo I'd decided to buy this, but now that GT5 has a confirmed release date so close to this I'll be giving Hot Pursuit a miss now.

Got my review copy through yesterday (can happily provide proof if anyone needs it), and I'm really enjoying it. You can feel the Burnout influence throughout the game, no surprise considering Criterion are behind it. There's a nice variation in the races (point to point, pursuit, straight up races, etc), and it's nice to play the cops and take people down. Really surprised how much I'm enjoying it so far :)

Yeah, a little, though it's not excessive. The worst I found was finding myself about 8 seconds behind the leaders with less than 2 miles left in the race, and nearly caught them by the finish. Considering how the gameplay often revolves battling other racers (and the cops) with the various weapons you have, I actually don't mind it keeping the races tight as it would get a little dull if you found yourself miles ahead/behind everyone all the time.

Off-topic but, do you have to work for a large review company to get a review copy or would it be possible to start up a small website reviewing things to get review copies of games?

This game looks really good from the trailer, if it's like Burnout Paradise then it will be brilliant!

When most sites start off, they start by reviewing their own games that they've bought, then as traffic rises they then try to start to get games from the PR companies and publishers. They don't give games out to anyone with a website (otherwise everyone would do it), but if you're serious about it then drop me an email at my Trust address and I'll offer any help I can :)

Is this released in North America today? I am eager to read some player reviews. I know reaction to the demo was mixed.

edit - yes :p Was just reading some comments on EA's American forums.

I've found the full game to be much better than the demo. The handling is improved, which was my main issue with the demo, and it's easier to move your car in and out of traffic now while holding whatever line you want. In fact, my only real issue with the game so far is that the AI always seems to take corners much faster than I do, virtually every time. I know it could be me powersliding too much, or just braking too much, but it's virtually every corner and it can be a little annoying at times.

Out of curiosity is the console version 30fps? I know that all of Criterion's previous games including on the PS2 and Xbox were 60fps.

(again google says yes :D I should look there first.)

Can anyone comment if this still has the annoying "catch up" where you can be 7+ seconds ahead, clip the kerb ever so slighly and the rest of the pack zoom past you?

Loved Most Wanted but couldn't be bothered with the rest of NFS series as the catch up kept getting on my nerves.

edit. Ignore, can't believe I missed the post a few inches up :(

After playing more last night I can say the catch up logic is definitely there, but nowhere near as bad as it used to be (NFS: Underground used to be the worst for it IMO). It partly seems to be handled by the racers ahead of you crashing, giving you the chance to catch up, instead of them always slowing down for no apparent reason. It makes the rubberband AI seem a little less obvious, and more natural, though some people will no doubt dislike it. As I said above though, I don't mind it too much in small amounts as it keeps the game interesting. I've probably had 40+ races now and not once have I felt cheated by it, losing when I obviously should have won. Whether others find the same though I can't say, I can only report on what I've seen with my time with the game.

Strange thing is that a few weeks ago i downloaded the demo but when i went to play it last night...it said demo is no longer available:confused: but yet its on my HD...i deleted it and tried to download it again but it doesnt show up in the demos:confused:...didnt realise that the demo was time limited...stupid of the devs if true..

I really enjoyed this game! :D even more so the 3 day battle with my friend for best time on the Cop Race, managed a totally lucky 1:04 something to his 1:09 then next day the Demo's gone :( I really hope these times are kept for the full game!

My times were carried over to the full game, so hopefully they won't wipe the leaderboards before the full game is released everywhere.

Yeah if people want to add their psn/xbox names I'll put them into the first post to make it easier for you. I'll be getting mine from either one of the major supermarkets.
