----------Official Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Thread----------

Apparently it is open world.

I was just reading this article which reckons it isn't like Burnout - although I disagree based on what I've seen. They reckon it is more like the old NFS Hot Pursuit II but I question the wisdom of copying that game which arguably wasn't exactly the high point of the franchise. It's like Criterion only know how to make one game.

I agree with this reader comment as well, these are extremly intrusive and jar you out of the moment:

I don't like the "look what you've just done" and "look out ahead!" moments when you destroy a car or see a roadblock. They appear to be too invasive to gameplay. I'd prefer if they were more subtle like in most wanted. I want to be surprised by a roadblock when I come around a corner.

Over the years ive drifted away from the "arcade" style racer's like the NFS series and Burnout. Now i only play "sim" style games like Forza or RFactor for the pc.

I downloaded the demo for Hot Pursuit for the 360 hoping that it may have been taken back to the roots of the original NFS game however i was left very disappointed. Lets face it, no racing game can get the physics of a car 100% bang on but a few over the years have given it a good shot and satisfaction can be had with the right setup. This latest version of NFS feels in no way like you have much control over the car.

Before people say it, yes i know its not meant to be a realistic simulation like Forza but at the end of the day, it is a 'Racing' game. I would have expected at the very least that it follows the basic principles of understeer and oversteer and following racing lines.

Lets hope the final version is a big improvement over the demo.

when i first played it i thought its crap, mainly due to the slow turning. however after putting a bit of effort into learning the cars characteristics i must say its not too bad and its growing on me. i can take pretty sharp turn without even drifting in the 370(something i thought was not possible when i first played) if i get my entrance line right.

now im drifting with a dab of the breaks and it feels very nice. also the racer race with the z4, i found that car much more anti-tank like in regards to turning. im guessing once you get to ride the higher specced cars its just going to get better, i hope the sense of speed is faster with the supercars.

i felt similar, if you can be arsed to get used/learn it, its pretty fun mate

Saw this at my friends house last night, all my other friend kept saying was 'I'm in a hot pursuit' in the voice of Buford T Justice in Smokey and the Bandit.

:D

Finally played the demo on PS3.

Nothing wrong with the graphics, even at 30fps it seemed quick and sable, hardly any screen tear from what I looked at. Scenery moves quickly and looks fantastic, sense of speed is there and the car models and gloss etc looked nice.

I wasn’t sure about the car views. None of them seemed to actually give a good view that I felt comfortable with. I really do hate driving games where you view the rear of the car in chase mode. So I was left with the bumper cam or bonnet cam and neither felt good. Bonnet cam was good enough for me to get into the action, but wow.. The 370 pursuit car was horrid. Felt like driving a brick. I could hardly keep a straight line..

I also felt like I was playing Burnout on the PS2, the takedowns for police pursuit don’t fit. I took out nearly all the opponents by racing up to the speeding opponent getting side by side and door handling a few times and then finally cutting across and smacking their front bumper and watching the cool ‘takedown’ slow motion cut scene.

The road blocks didn’t stop anyone, in fact more of a hindrance to me TBH. Helicopter support wasn’t in the demo and the spikes didn’t go anything.

The race as speeder was ok, but if you’re in the lead game deploys catchup, so you never get too far in front and I had no pursuits so I’m not sure about this.

Seems another miss for EA with the two studios working on the same title. MOH had DICE involvement, so did this, and it just feels disjointed.

Once for when it drops below £20 or a £10 second hand or something.. Its burnout with cops etc.. Shame, could have been so much more, not a bad game just too many other games to take a look at before this gets a look in.

You are aware how the spike strip works?

Your using the road blocks wrong, I managed to get them to take down 3 people after the first bend, they work very well.

That’s good to know, cheers for that. I'll go check it out and still come to the same conclusion I guess but i'll have another crack.. Game is a bit meh but sure you'll enjoy your purchase. :D

Found the quickest way to take down (this game is so 'burnout' with all this take down talk) anyone is to just slam into them..... Easy and not much of a challange TBH.

I guess if the spike strips had worked, a cinematic sequence showing the car getting damaged by the spike hit would play meaning the driver was getting busted, I never got this, so just hit the car in the side and whacked the front bumper and that showed the driver as being busted..

Road blocks were hit n miss. I guess you're meant to get the car you're chasing caught up in the blockage and ram them etc.. Just seemed to work against me.

didn't help with the dog handling of the 370z car I was playing with mind... Like trying to handle a bus.. Granted, its not meant to be sim like but wouldn't hurt to have a car that turns a little better.. Still, game did have some features I liked... Just not £35 worth I felt.. :p
