OFFICIAL: Nintendo Revolution called 'Wii'!

I still can't get past "Wee" either... maybe they wanted us to laugh at the name... someone probably got an obscene amount of money for coming up with it. And according to Gamespot;
It may also be worth noting that "ii" means "good" in Japanese.
It's funny how much effort they put into these campaigns (the whole "360 entertainment experience" with the xbox, for example) and people take absolutely no notice :p

That's it, I'm sure the big N hired some phenomenally old martial arts-master-cum-philosopher to give his input on the zen quotient in the title, ensuring it struck a chord with the masses over eastwards, but sadly the entire western world will just see it as naff.

Right.

I feel like, and if you'll pardon the pun, that Nintendo are taking the **** outta me. They must know the meaning of the name in Western nations, but know vast swathes with still buy the damn thing - like me.

I don't know if it's good or bad for marketing - you couldn't go far wrong with Revolution to be honest, unless it fell flat on its face - but Wii just seems strange.

It looks good as a logo, it looks good written down, but unless you're French or Japanese you're gonna feel a plonker saying it. Best of all Kaplin is saying it'll be great once it sinks in - just like Google, Napster, iPod. Hello? Kaplin? None of those means I'm gonna take a wiz for Christ's sake!

I'm gonna sit here and 'hmmmm' for while.

I'd still buy it if it was called the Nintendo Turd.
post of the day, got a laugh from me

shame on the name, i had enough grief with the Gamepube, in my old school , god knws what jokes the Wii will open up.

Still probs will be a gd console

Seriously... having some tiny little box with a glowing blue slit on it for discs and calling it the Revolution was cool.

Wii?!?!?! WTF are they thinking. It's not catchy, just makes it sound like a p.o.s.

Hmmmmmm.

I'm still undecided about this.

Different? Yes
Great name? Not so sure.

I'm still going to buy one hell yeah, but the name change now takes a bit of the shine off of the whole campaign. One thing is for sure though; you look at IGN, Joystiq, Engadget, Eurogamer boards. It's certainly got A LOT of attention, and the big N hasn't paid a penny for it. Whether it'll pay off, I don't know.

Roll on E3 and let Nintendo wipe the floor.

Given the IGN article, it sounds like they're going for a universal name with it. Eep.

The strange thing is, I look at "Wii" and I don't see "we", I see "why", because that's how it's pronounced. Silly japs.

I see a stupid name :p

The Wii is one of the best, if not 'the' best looking consoles I have ever seen. It looks far better than a slim PS2 IMO.

The 'Wii' logo is actually pretty cool, would look good on a white Wii.

Whilst typing that last sentence I thought to myself 'a white Wii sounds a bit silly :p'

The console itself still rocks a hard one.
