OFFICIAL: Nintendo Revolution called 'Wii'!

Someone, somewhere is sat in a cubicle reading the backlash to this and wondering if it really was a gerat idea to propose a joke name on April the 1st ;)

The marketing agency that gets this contract is gonna have to work REALLY hard to earn their paycheck this time around :D
 
This is a wierd name.. and to think someone actually got paid for thinking up that 'revolutionary' name. Madness!

Although, yeah maybe they will reconsider, if not nevermind. The name isn't everything! I actually want to see what the consoles capable of, rather than its name.

It does make me laugh, like the uproar after the 360's name was announced.

It is true that a name doesn't mean too much.

Yes 360 is stupid, Gameboy is stupid, Playstation is stupid, but the important factor is that none of these names mean bodily waste :(

Also, "Touchy Feely" marketing bumf tends to get right up people's noses too :)

Call me childish and stubborn, but I will never refer to it as Wii, and I will be strolling into my local console type shop and asking for a Revolution on launch day goddamnit !!!
 
I think thats going to be the biggest stumbling block on this change, we have lived with Revolution so long that it has stuck. It embodied exactly what the new console was going to be and I believe it even represented their breakaway idea of tailoring to not just hardcore gamers. It really was going to be a revolution in the way people consumed entertainment and interacted with it.

Talk about starting the race on a really steep incline :rolleyes:

It matters a huge amount in terms of marketing the thing, if people wont take it seriously because of the dodgy name.

Might be the best thing ever, but it wont matter if people arn't attracted to it.

I still expect them to change the name for the western market, if they dont then I think they are committing commercial suicide.
 
Exactly... The Wii title isn't likely to affect our decision as to whether we buy one or not; we're all gamers here and (hopefully) wouldn't but dissuaded by something as trivial as a name.

However, one could argue that the 'casual' gaming public's buying power is far greater than that of our own particular subset. It is them that will ultimately decide the fate of a gaming product. I can see the name 'Wii' receiving some stick from this group.

I'm not letting Nintendo Wii in my living room. :p

Why spend all that time designing such a nice looking console if you're going to ruin it with a name like this? It's baffling.
 
Someone should make up a webpage with all these pictures on it, and then send the link to Nintendo. Maybe then they'll get the idea of what "Wii" means to most people in the UK.

Will nintendo's Wii come in different colours?

How long will nintendo wait before releasing their Wii?

Where do you put your Wii?

Do you stand and wii or sit and wii?


I will always refer to it as a revolution.
