OFFICIAL: Nintendo Revolution called 'Wii'!

Doesn't anyone remember how 'odd' PlayStation sounded when it was first announced? I remember my thinking it sounded like one of those things babies lay under and play with rattles etc.

It'll soon grow on you. :)
Dear god I hope it wont. Imagine the smell.

The problem isnt that its called Wii, i can get on board on with that if wii didnt mean wee if you get me.

wii also means small too folk like me ;) (Scots)

But to be honest, i preffered revolution lol
i also preffered longhorn for windows too, but i have a close bond with Texas so... lol

Just look at the blurred out bit :D

If it is the real name, then it will be commercial suicide at least in the west. 8-16 year olds take a lot at face value and they make up a lot of Nintendo's customer base.

If it isnt the real name, then it is marketing genius as I had all but forgotten the Revolution was still coming out due to the lack of news about it.

Whats your point...?

Thay do, not saying I won't buy one cos I will. I just hope it isnt called the Wii.
Just another wild asumption that Nintendos largest market is children.
When that hasnt been proven either way, and is just a general asumption that everyone makes based upon the perceived company image.
lol.

Nm. Dont worry about it. :)

Well ok, it hasnt been proved either way so your being just as ignorant believing children arent their target audience/largest market.

Look at the large majority of games released, while they may appeal to older people they are primarily aimed at children and bar the Revo/Wii the consoles themselves have all been designed to appeal to children. (Bright colours, simple designs)

Also, it is you that has made the assumption. I said a lot not the majority. Even if the split is 40% <16 and 60%>16 thats still huge potential market the are risking for something as simple as the name.
They already had a perfectley good one, why risk changing it?

NM. Don't worry about it :)

I do agree.

But who would YOU rather be ?
The person who was taken in by a brilliant piece of Nintendo marketing or the person who has a Wii in their bedroom ?
:)

A few points the have been made..
1) The fact Ninty have said they released the name early to let the public "vent". This is essentially them saying "We know its rubbish"
2) As far as I am aware, there is STILL no trademark for Wii.
3) Everyone knows that Ninty's marketing is awful and useless (with the exception of the DS) so they could easily fool us by pretending they've messed up agian.
4) There's no such thing as bad publicity ? Try telling that to Gary Glitter :)

Until I see photographic evidence of Wii plastered all over the console and the stands at E3, I am still going to hope.
And even if it does turn out to be Wii, I'll not be refering to it as that..... EVAR !!! :p

Thats not ignorence. Thats stating that it hasnt been proven either way. ;)

Bright colours. Simple designs?
Simplicity is often seen as stylish(Apple anyone?), and whats brighter than white, Apple.
Design is a moot point anyway. One persons simple/bright is anothers genius. And visa-versa.

:)

What are the odds the management over there all suffered a knock to the head at the same time when they thought that name up..
I was expecting something like those silly titles they add to graphics like the `Nrev Force Tornado Insane Max extremetastic edge edition`,you know, something you can remember :D.
This is still April fools month,i don`t believe it

Take a look at the latest Penny Arcade, can't link to it and you'll find out why, but rofl.
