*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

Nope there was no pro controller in the bundle. I think that may have only been around launch TBH as I can't remember seeing any other bundles with it.

I have spent quite a bit of time this weekend playing the game and tbh I have now warmed to the gamepad. I do wish it would do a bit more as at times the screen (TV) can get a little overloaded with "stuff".

I game across all formats and tbh I care more about the games themselves than the "ERMG dis is not 1080p60 herp derp" that seems to be doing the rounds. Ultimately the developers on all (console) platforms have set hardware to work with and thus must make a decision on what to focus on - performance or image quality (including resolution). Some are (much) worse than others mind!

This is one game where you probably do want to try using the gamepad rather than a pro-controller. Xenoblade X actually makes use of the gamepad for gameplay elements/functions/menus etc.

Thinking of picking up a Wii U bundle for my two younger daughters (10 and 7) who have taken up playing their original Wii, particularly Mario Bros and M. Kart. Any quick advice for what I need to get up and running? Thinking of picking up one of the Mario Kart bundles but do I need a HDMI cable and another controlled or can I use my old Wii controllers? Thanks in advance.

Your old controllers will be fine and I'm sure all Wii U consoles come with a HDMI cable. Mario Kart 8 :) will keep them busy for ages and id highly recommend the DLC for it from the eShop (about £11)
For your daughters I'd recommend the Just Dance and Lego games also Pikmin3, Yoshi's Woolly World, Captain Toad and Super Mario 3D Worlds.
I,m sure you would then be the bestest Dad in the world ;)

Cheers Budge, that's really helpful. Much appreciated.

Agree with most of the above, except it is mario kart 8, not 9!

My kids (5 & 3) love the wii u.

I would consider captain toad and kirby as well. Captain toad is really nicely paced and is a great introduction to 3d movement, and with kirby everything is done by drawing on the screen which is obviously great for kids.

Fast Racing Neo reviews are going up - it's scoring very well.

Yet another top class Wii U game.

People are going to look back on this console in years to come and the camp will be split into two:

Half will say - "I owned one - I was there, and boy was it fun"

The other half will say - "Damn, I missed the boat, I was this close to getting one too"

:)

Or those that say - yeah, it was pretty good. Another GameCube/Wii. tbh I'd probably edge the WiiU over the Wii if pushed - although it has nothing that touches the Galaxy games - but think the GameCube has it beat.

Now let's hope the NX is another SNES or N64! Then we'll be talking.

Brilliant. I will pick it up on Friday :)

From not getting much action, between Xenoblade Chronicles X and Fast Racing Neo my Wii U will be getting a lot of action for the next month or so :D

May even add Super Mario Smash Tennis to that list if I find it for under £20 somewhere :p

Just saw a review for Fast Racing Neo. Sounds like a good game but I was turned off a bit when they said how hard it is. I'm not the best racing game player so really hard games will likely just put me off.

Either am I but I love F-Zero and this is the best we are going to get for now.

We've got the kids a Wii U with Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 for Christmas. Me and the Mrs can't wait to get our hands on it and get back into some Nintendo goodness :D

We already have some Wii remotes and nunchucks and planning on getting some Eneloop rechargeable batteries. Is there anything else I should consider to get us up and running Christmas day?

Was a bit gutted to find out that Splatoon can't really be played 2 player locally though. From the adverts I sort of got the impression that it was a game we could all have fun together on, not just single player. Have I got this right?

However looking forward to playing Fast Racing Neo, used to spend hours playing the old Wipeout games and think my boys will love it too.

Also picked up a Wii Fit U, with balance board and Fit Meter for £40 delivered (rrp £80) from the Ninetendo store, may help burn of some of the Christmas excess!!
