*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

It seems a bit pointless showing a game that's nearly a year out without the hardware is going to run best on.

Yeah that's the only odd thing about all this. Perhaps we can assume that the NX version of Zelda won't be a big technical leap from the Wii U version. The Wii U build they demoed back in 2014 seemed to run well, it will be interesting to see how far it has come since.
Unless Zelda is going to be running on custom units closer to the NX specification at E3 (unlikely).

E3 is a good platform to reveal and advertise products, but it's not as significant as it once was. Many publishers choose to reveal games outside of the event - and remember that Xbox one / PS4 were revealed in the months prior to E3 2013. By running their own separate event, Nintendo can have more of the focus (news media attention) on themselves and more freedom regarding the format, and of course the timing.

I suspect Nintendo will be hoping to shift many NX units with Zelda. Unless they have something else big under their sleeves.

What they need is to have a decent first party game coming out every couple of months then have enough third party titles to fill in the gaps.

What I suspect will happen is we will get Zelda at launch and a few badly ported third party titles. It will be 6 months before anything else comes out and they'll spend that time scratching their heads and wondering why it hasn't sold a lot. Plus they won't advertise anything.

Quite possibly. And all the while their big IPs continue to dwindle as the gamers that remember when they were great get old and the current generation have never played them.

2TB is the maximum usable memory per external device.

One thing to note, the SD card slot on the front of the Wii U cannot be used for external storage - It's for Wii backwards compat stuff and game specific features, like screenshots in Smash.

Nintendo only recommend using a HDD with it's own power source, but I'm actually using an SD card for external storage plugged into a USB port via a SD-USB adapter and it works fine.

I'm not sure of the differences exactly, but speeds should be similar between an SD card via adapter and a flash drive (WiiU USB is 2.0).

I only used the 1tb as it was the biggest thing i had to hand once i had filled the internal storage. Believe it or not i have never actually purchased a flash drive :o, the only ones i have are all 4gb freebies my dad got through work.

Same it may produce less games, but the quality is far higher to the point where I own most of them. That can't be said for my PS4 where I can't find a single came that I want for it.

To the point it's been loaned to a friend for his kids to play Battlefront.

Bar missing a few games and adding some questionable ones, that list seems pretty on point. If it included the N64 and SNES, the trend of increasing quality going back through time would continue at a similar angle. Thing is - the WiiU has decent games. If you compare it and Nintendo to the current competition, it is strong. If you compare it to previous Nintendo and their consoles, it isn't close and not nearly enough, in isolation, to win gamer's attention these days.

Despite their being good games on the Wii and Wii U, the GC was, imho, the last decent Nintendo console. There was some 3rd party support and some high quality, original, first party stuff. Virtually everything we get on the WiiU, in comparison, is play it safe, paint by no.s, rehashes. Very good rehashes, but there's no spark of creativity any more and I honestly struggle to remember the last Nitnendo game that did this:
