*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

Ok so on my dell monitor via component cable the menus keep bugging out and switching off when moving around the screen like in the miiverse. The menus are always slightly zoomed in off the edge of the screen too. I can't use hdmi which solves the video issue because my audio system takes red and white left and right cables.

So I'm limited to perfectly working wii u with sound thru headphones from the pad and hdmi picture

Or alternatively messed up menus and buggy aspect ratio for all wii u interface items but with really great 2.1 sound through my damn good regular hifi. (games display correctly)

Is there going to be like a patch so you can have hdmi picture and component audio because it is actually soooooo retarded that this is not an option and that 16:10 is not an option either. so annoyed with the console to be honest right now.

I'm not sure, mine doesn't even connect to the network as DHCP is off until I manually assign the console an IP. Maybe something you have turned on via the router is blocking it access to the internet?. Just a general overview of my settings... on my router I have DHCP turned off. Wii U is then set to 192.168.0.101, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1. Then I have the DNS servers set to what I wrote above. With that, it connects immediately. PC has the same settings including the DNS servers but it's IP is .100 rather than .101.

It's probably just that app, when I tried it earlier it seemed very clunky and half arsed.

Thanks for the help, I finally got connected to the net, turned back on DCHP but changed the security setting to WPA Auto.

Downloading the update :D seems sloooow.

On another note I'm enjoying ZombiU, it's quite hard though managed to get killed after coming back from the supermarket and getting over run. Quite like how they use situations to scare you, when I first came out of the supermarket and ran into that screaming zombie thing, I went into panic mode ran back over the fence and into the supermarket again doh!

Got Mario on the way from Lovefilm :D

Whats Black Ops 2, Assassins Creed 3, and Batman like on the Wii U?

So you are using a component cable from the Wii and wondering why its not working properly??

Why would it support 16:10, the PS3 doesn't, 99% of TVs/Monitors are 16:9 thesedays.

Should I be using one specifically made for the wii U? If there is anything I can get your knowledge would be very much appreciated as the original wii cable is listed as compatible on the box. My ps3 displays fine via component on the same monitor.

There isn't a component cable for WiiU, you are supposed to use HDMI, they leave the multi av out for SD output.

Look on your monitor in OSD settings - Zoom and set it to 1:1, see if that helps.

Waiting for my Wii U :(

Current status is:

'Your parcel is going out for delivery'

The only game I will have to play is Zombie U since none of the games Zavvi shipped have turned up, anyone else had this problem with Zavvi?

I thought I should chip in to this thread as I am hopefully getting my wii u today :)

I am getting the zombiu bundle but will have a think about what other game to get. I'll probably get nsmbu.

I have ordered tekken tag tournament as well from zavvi and that was only dispatched yesterday, so I doubt that will tip up untill next week which is a tad bit annoying seeing as I ordered it at the start of November!

Which Dell monitor is it? Have you tried going into the OSD and display settings and changing the 'Wide Mode' option to aspect or 1:1?

i have 1 game shipped from zavvi mario something or other but other 3 nothing yet said ship tomorrow thing im pretty frustated with is tesco got email last week letting me know i have been assigned a wii u even tho world wide stock shortage blah blah but they still havent took money out of bank and no mail about it being dispatched even tho it was ordered nearly 2 months ago

I set the option to 1:1 and the picture becomes small in the middle of the screen but still with the edges of icons missing lol. This is the 3008wfp type dell.

I've got a feeling all pc users are going to need a hdmi cinema amp or a £120 hdmi audio extractor with built in dac if they want to get the wii U onto a monitor.

Might pop into cash converters to see if anyone hard up has traded in a cinema amp with hdmi, they'll probably take my cambridge audio 650A off my hands.

All over google is wii U overscan problems.

Interesting review of the WiiU by the telegraph - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/video-games/video-game-reviews/9713229/Wii-U-review.html

The potential for the Gamepad's features is most keenly felt in Nintendo Land, a collection of mini-games that showcase different aspects of the controller. For solo players, there are neat tricks like flinging a ninja star from controller to the television. However, the most intriguing use of the Gamepad comes in the "asynchronous" multiplayer. The Wii U is compatible with Wii remotes from its predecessor, and many of the multiplayer games in Nintendo Land revolve around up to four players using Wii remotes, while one player uses the Gamepad to perform a slightly different task.

For example, one attraction in Nintendo Land has remote-wielders searching for a ghost controlled by the Gamepad. The hunters can't see the ghost on the TV, and have to communicate with each other when their controller rumbles when the ghost comes near. It's a little bit convoluted in explanation, but in practice it's enormous fun. This is why Nintendo need to get the Wii U into people's hands, or hope for strong word of mouth, as the concept is tricky to communicate, but in practice is easy to grasp.

Hardly problems when they give you HDMI out of the box, its not meant to use component cable it just happens that it is compatible so you can use Wii SD cables.

But unless you have a television you cannot get sound from a hdmi cable. That is the only issue. A solution for this is only to spend lots of money on an amp or on a tv or on an audio extractor. I don't want to use component.

I think they are right about how it's hard to describe but easy to use. I was trying to explain all the uses of the GamePad in ZombiU to a friend and he didn't understand, but when he came over and had a go he got it immediately.

Also, the consoles browser is awesome (using it at the moment to try it out).
