Bah.

I suck at online chess :p

It's weird because I'm not so bad in actual Chess. I think it's the fact that I can't see my opponent while they're making their move and can;t watch their eyes!

How close are people finding their Chess Mentor rating (assuming you’ve used it for more than 30 lessons) to their actual live rating? I’m trying to figure out just how much of a crash I can expect when my luck runs out.

Chess mentor is + 300 on my rating - tactics however is -100. So read from that what you will!

Bloody hell. I'm disappointed I let you win that one maustin. You couldn't have made it easier for me and I still messed it up.

Well if you look at my games with everyone I don't win but rather other people are losing. Once people tighten up against me I fully expect to be losing quite a bit because in the main even when I win I am actually playing worse than my opponents.

Edit: I don't believe quite how badly I have played in that other game against you also - some really sloppy play there. I think I really need to take a good look at my opening play because it is getting me in all kind of problems.

Sure, why not :)
I put one in and it was a load of crap though. Look at some of the suggestions it gives you; some of them are totally ridiculous.

Playing more matches obviously means more experience, however from what I've seen, it means you forget lines/study in other games and are more likely to blunder as a result having forgot continuations. Less games also means more time to appreciate certain openings and defences; you will gain - in my opinion - more from playing three slow games of a certain opening/defense/system than you will in playing 20 games of large variety. However, it depends on your current skill-level and aims.

I suspect many of us are in the same boat and wish to appreciate openings and defenses more intimately rather than working on issues of control and tempo.

A single slowly played, intimate game following say QGD and the Caro-Kann defense, will give you far more appreciation than double digits of messy played games around the same variations.
