*** Official OcUK Minecraft Server - Discussion and Rules ***

sorry about that fran it seems like dropbox has had a hissy fit tonight
No problem, I'm just happy that things are online and I know where I'm supposed to be going, I thought I was doing it wrong again.

Speaking of not knowing what I'm doing :o
I have the 1.4.7 LT file, but it has no 'instance' folder, so I don't know what I'm doing when trying to follow yrthilian's installation guide.
I've made stuff up as I go along, but that fails as expected :(

If it helps, I can crash ATM machines too, it's a gift :o

make yourself a miners backpack.
Hey, that's pretty neat, thanks for the pro tip

Got it,
Made new instance using multimedia from the last 1.4.6 update.
Looked in the "instances" folder and then looked in the folder for the new instance I just made.
Deleted the minecraft folder in there, and copied in the one from 1.4.7 LT

Ran the new instance

All the settings are reset though, like inventory is I instead of E

(note, this probably isn't what you are supposed to do, it just appears to work for me)

Can't make a macerator ???

3 flint,
cobblestone, machine block, cobblestone
Electronic circuit

Produces nothing on the crafting table ?

Edit
Wow, from looking around it may be that Gregtech has overwritten the IC2 recipe with a stupidly expensive one that requires THREE DIAMONDS!!!!
Arrrrgggh.

Any chance we could have the sane IC2 version back please ?

Recipes have changed - awesome mod called GregTech

IC2 is overpowered, there's other ways and means of doubling your ore output from the start. Take your time and have a look through the mods, if you want a wiki to get you started the FTB aint bad yes we have some more mods but that's tells you how you can get going etc.

yes it may be harder, but it gets you exploring the mods. But that's where its fun. Enjoy it

It may be awesome, but for me it may as well be 'buildyourownpirateshipusing999trilliondiamonds' mod, right now I have three diamonds so I won't be building any of Gregs little toys for years :(

Took me ages to build anything, seemed OK to me ?
It had a jet pack and quantum armour which only took three hits and you were dead anyway.

Fun is playing with stuff I understand, anything else is homework :(

I liked IC2, buildcraft, bits of redpower, and railcraft was next on my list because I wanted a tunnel making thing, it took me ages to understand any of them.
Now I have chests full of Xychorium and shards, two different worlds and recipes that change when you are not looking

Fran as I said on the server if you need a hand with anything just ask I know the recipes for IC2 have been upped but we came to the conclusion that it gets people who are savvy with the IC2 mod exploring different ways to process ores etc, I really don't want to lower them or it will be ic2 world again and everything else becomes second to it.

Here is Thermal expansion which is becoming a hit in the handful of builds that i have seen around where I am it's basically ic2 running on buildcraft but brings it too a whole new level

Also here is Factorization - this mod will tripple your ore output but is balanced in the way it does this (great for gold and also silver as it gives the by-product of lead)

You may want to catch a couple of episodes of this it's direwolfs lets play series which is very informative on the way the mods work

The popular mods on the server have been covered by his spotlight series might be worth taking a look at them to see how things work you mentioned tunnel bores he has a spotlight for railcraft and also steve's carts both present on the server.

fran, if you're hurting for resources just make a quarry powered by a magmatic engine, or make a chunk loading wireless turtle (and 4 enderchests) and use my quarry program

are there any coding geniuses around here because i could really do with some help. i'm getting an 'attempt to call nil' error on line 23
code: http://pastebin.com/H1rYTECU

i'm trying to let the quarry program resume where it left off if the turtle gets turned off for any reason (like a server restart). I think i've tracked down the problem to global variables not working properly but what i can do to solve the problem i really don't know. if anyone could give some suggestions it would be much appreciated

this is the guide i am using for reading from and writing to the file, which worked perfectly fine for my deathcount program: http://www.computercraft.info/forums2/index.php?/topic/3923-basic-file-io-learn-how-to-save-data/

*edit*
fixed a typo and reuploaded to pastebin, but it still has the same problem

Yes, those are the ones I have been following, still, it is just more machines with yet another power source. Like I could build those machines which process ores more efficiently, but they appear to run off a different solar power ?

Nuclear power is really the only thing that is suitable for jet packs and quantum armour so I'll have to go that route regardless. All this other stuff will have to wait, the only different thing is having to use quarries where before I didn't like to use them.

Has gregtech messed with anything else in IC2 ? I can accept losing three diamonds now, but not if he's gone mad with anything else.

Or a steam engine and a quarry, I can do that without melting my poor brain :D

It's not the resources (well, not now I have copper), it's the learning curve and what is the best way from A to B.

I'll be blunt and say its Nuclear power is not required at all. I'm running around in a quantum suit + Graviton Chest piece and i've just been running 3 geothermals into a MFSU. Plus i've got all the tools etc which need charging too. Havent run out of power yet.

This is true, I only turned mine on to recharge the box, but I was saving lava pools for UU matter as they seemed a bit more finite ? Maybe I was doing it wrong but a redstone pump plus a few geothermal things practically emptied a nether lake. A nuclear one just goes on for ages.
I saw a few other people's devices in the nether but I didn't understand how theirs worked, they certainly didn't appear to be leaving big holes in the lava :o

I haven't figured out wireless energy yet, so these things just go where the lava is which would be a bit awkward ?

Liquid Transposer + Pump - Enderchests either side sending it back to another enderchest in the overworld where the transposer dumps it into a tank. To power the engines in the nether you just need a geothermal powering two electric engines.
