Server Upgrade in December

I will be moving to a new dedi provider in December. This new provider will for a similar price to now give me a dedi with a far better CPU (3.8ghz clock vs 2.6) and more ram (32GB vs 24GB). There should be minimal downtime as I plan to run both the new and the old server together for about a week whilst I get everything up and running.

The only slight pain is the setup fee, which means an additional one-off payment of a month of server rent.

As such, I'm cheekily asking if anyone can help out with donations. We have had a few more recently and they are really appreciated but anything else people could give would be a huge help :) There are of course the usual donation rewards for players that do this.

Thanks :)

great to hear about the update, i suspect the modded server is using a lot of CPU power because we have such an early version of mystcraft which really isnt optimised well.

i would donate, but i literally have no money because the student loan people decided that i dont exist so i'm still trying to get my loan

No worries :) I don't really like spamming people for donations but I really want to get this server move implemented asap and I'm a bit low on cash myself atm.

I've asked yrth and 5punk to have a look at the modded server. It's quite concerning that it's using so much CPU with no players online. Hopefully they'll pick up on the mystcraft thing you've pointed out.

Vanilla's CPU usage is almost comically low after looking at the modded server. However, neither server uses a ramdisk any more so chunk loading will be a little slower than it was about 3-4 months ago (when I made the change).

AirGuitar... Why on earth are you raging so much?

Some aspects of the game are reserved for events. This is hardly unusual or indeed something that only exists in Minecraft. There's no need to throw a hissy fit.

Discussions are going on about this and there will be an update soon (maybe not until tomorrow) that should make players happy.

The admins are always happy to listen to ideas and feedback but being aggressive with them will of course not get you a favourable response initially, as has happened here.

I personally feel that RP is probably one of the funnest mods out there.

But does the fun factor of it outweigh that of updating the server to 1.4.x (and further) and also all the other mods that would require the updated MC version?

That's the thing here. I am not fully up on it all but I believe the RP is almost the only thing preventing us from updating.

FYI, the new dedi server is up and running. Currently configuring it and getting it ready to migrate the MC servers across. Lots of work to do so don't expect it to be completed in the next couple of days :)
