Well I couldn't resist, sold the 260 and picked this beast up, test her out after, she looks great in the case..:D

So you got it to fit in you Mid Tower case ;)

not impossible.

my mate has just installed his and said

can't wait to get mine installed

Ok , I see people don't read what was posted !!, The OP said he "loaded it up" and got 36 degrees

Clearly You Guys understand loading it up as "installing" whereas "loaded up " Hardware is under working Load....not idle

Still quite reasonable temp for a big GFX card that maybe spends 80% of it's life at idle and nice it comes factory STD like that without bios editing ;) Just hope the load switching is totally seamless unlike older 3XXX powerplay !

Got my HD5870 today...

1. Big. Damn big. Even compared to my Palit HD4870 1GB Sonic Dual Edition :

5870vs4870.jpg

2. I hate the fact that the holes for fixing the card NEVER fits to the holes in case - i was "forced" to use only 1 thumbscrew to fix the card.

3. Silence in idle. Just WOW .

4. Minimum FPS @ 1920x1200 max AA max AF max details got above 100 FPS. :D

5. Power usage in watts - another WOW :

Setup / Idle / Furmark / OCCT / OCCT+Furmark
E8400 + HD4870 1GB / 190 / - / - / - (my old setup i had before)
I5 750 + HD4870 1GB / 160 / 250 / 235 / 306
I5 750 + HD5870 / 117 / 303 / 187 / 303 ( i guess the Furmark with this card pushed the CPU much more, so there was no power difference between Furmark and OCCT+Furmark run).

The final picture (sorry for the dust and fingerprints, i will clean up when i will get the new CPU cooler or kit for Thermalright, whatever comes first) :

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK PEOPLE!

this asus official refrence 5870 bios has higher CCC clock limits 1200 core 1400 memory instead of default 900 core 1300 memory
flash it to your 5870s and never worry about not hitting the max your graphics cards can do when overclocking.

this bios will also let your cards keep there atpowerplay intact when overclocking the cards with MSI overclocking tool instead of useing that crap AMD GPU tool as that tool breaks ATIpowerPLAY.

Sounds awesome Thorpedo! I'm quite jealous! I love building a new system. I have a spare PSU and my 4850 lying around now... really tempted to build a whole system just to fit them in :P

So what is everyone using to test out their new 5870s? I tried Crysis Warhead, but it crashed. Also tested GRID, and it was exactly the same :P Anyone found a massive improvement in a game?

so you forgot to reinstall windows?, didnt you?

AMD GPU TOOL breaks atipowerplay? Lame oh well won't be using that, I'll just use the MSi thing
