I recorded the sound of my system with the side of the case off, here is what it sounds like and i set the fan of the 5870 to 72%

the whining is louder it seems when i put the fan speed up, does anyone else hear it?

Get that card under water asap!

I remember my 4870x2 before I water cooled it; never again.

You have a couple of noises there, I assume its the electronic type hum that bothers You ?, Just carefully pull the fan plug and try it again (if You can get to it)
and or find a piece of hard plastic something like a long pencil and with one end on your ear listen against parts of the card to narrow it down

is there a way to manually set the fan lower than 20%? that way i will know for sure it's the fan.

should i contact sapphire about it and see what they say?

That is too loud i could not put up with that

It never hits that, I was running occt and it maxxed at ~55% after about 15 minutes, hit 90C and stayed there

Are any of the new ati cards as good as the nvidia 295? dont seem to be but im not certain.

Yeah the 5870 is better, it's got 90% the performance with none of the multigpu issues and DX11

wow. awesome! i wish i had a pair cards that sounded like that my goal is to have my pc sounding like a jet when its set to full fan speeds xD nothing more satisying, haha! if only i even had one of these cards. nevermind 2. haha

why are you trying to contact sapphire?
Go back to the retailer you bought it from and say look the thing is faulty i would like it replaced.

i didnt want to contact them originally as i thought if they had backorders it would take ages to get a replacement.

The 5870 is even louder if you set the fan to 100%.

My case is fairly quiet, the only fans i have in there are the ones that came with it..

I've found mine isn't too bad, if its set to 100% its like a plane but considering it cools @ 55 deg on furmark and my nvidia did 77 deg. I'm happy
