*** Official OMG I've finally got my 5850 thread **

I just got 7.7 for my 5850 in graphics and gaming graphics. Not sure why yours in 7 tbh.
Probably a bug in the RC or something. Only a few weeks of that left I suppose :).

Next silly question I have is, how do you triple crossfire cards? Do you have to have say a 5850 and a 5850 X2, or is there are trick with the crossfire bridges?

even if u flash it, i don't think the 5850 as the chip (VT165MF) to be able to control the voltage..

Every reference 5850 has it. Just look the 5850 backside:

and:
vreg_small.jpg

The GPU voltage is managed by a Volterra VT1165MF voltage controller which is I2C capable enabling software voltmods.

MSI afterburner up's the wrong clock voltage (UVD) not the 3d clock voltage.

AMD GPU Clock Tool works but not the voltage.

gputool 0.0.0 doesn't work with 5850 but works with 5870... if the 5850 as the same voltage chip as a 5870 surely it should work...

Tell me about it, not even a molex-> PCI-E cable or two!
I got two of these with my XFX. Although yeah, I was expecting a bunch of other stuff for some reason. I dislike how HDMI has removed the need for a big adaptor for the S-Video port, those things always looked kinda cool and colourful. :(

Anyone able to tell what GTA4 is like? 1920x1200 please max details medium sliders!

With specs in my sig, at 1280x1024 (can't go higher), I run GTA 4 at these settings

textures: high
reflections: high
shadows: high
Anisofilter: v.high
draw distance: 30
detail distance: 75
shadow density: 1
v-sync: on
definition: on

(probably missed out a couple of variables but its all pretty much, high it runs great finally :D)

Anyway onto some benchies for those that are interested.

  • 3D Marks 2006

Q6600 @3.5ghz, 4gb ram etc.

5850 @ stock speeds

18350 points
sm2.0 - 7075
sm3.0 - 8934
cpu - 4992

Good solid increase but not the best gfx power test as mark06 is fairly cpu dependant still

Weird as at stock, I get 18,102 with my setup:

sm2.0 - 8322
sm3.0 - 9445
cpu -3536

Anyone care to suggest why the scores are so different? Also, how do I unlock overdrive in CCC??

NB: For anyone that's thinking of getting a 5850 and has a P182 for a case, you have can't have a fan attached to the middle HD cage due to the placement of the PCI-E power connectors, wish they'd put them on the top like the 5870 :(

Sounds good. I hope I get nice low temps like that. What block are you using?

My old koolance low profile one been using it for my last few cards still serves me well. I know theres better out there but it still cools a dam site better than any air cooled solution, plus I dont have to keep buying new ones for each card. Just home from work now I swear I'll never get round to benchmarking this thing properly till next week at this rate! Bit worried about my VRM temps though, even though I've put heatsinks on them still seem kinda hot when running furmark (80s) in everest though when gaming only in the low 60s is this OK? Can someone else with the stock cooler still on tell me what everest is saying for you when running furmark/gaming think i'm gunna beef up the cooling on them.

my max core clock is 830 on stock volts...

upping the memory doesn't do much to the performance.

Yeah, once the memory is in the triple digits for the time being it is more than enough, I tried 830 on stock but it crashed running ATI tool, I then tried again at 825 which worked but after playing Crysis warhead for 15mins it crashed the game, so stable is around 815-820 on stock volts for me

Sigh if only the MSI afterburner worked it would have been great, I'm not looking to flash BIOS's or anything so I'm hoping for some other software work around

I'll have to keep an eye on that then as I won't be putting on a full cover block either.

What have i missed here? Why wouldn't the volt software work on you 5850?
