*** Official OMG I've finally got my 5850 thread **

Looks like Jason, Gareth, Jabbs and Banshee are too busy enjoying games to give us an update!! :D

Banshee, what block are you going to put on it?

He he, nice combination of red and green teams phr4n. Looks like you haven't cleaned it out for a while though!!

Added some useful links to the first post. Let me know if any are wrong, missing, out of date etc. Also, if there's any missing.

Yeah, the Asus 5850 bios or the MSI 5850 "official" modded bios ;)

I know. :(

Finally got my card properly set up and watercooled after buying some additional heatsinks for the voltage regulators. Now idles at 30C and load at 38C hope to get some benchmarks done tonight. Looking forward to seeing how far it'll clock too :D

Sounds good. I hope I get nice low temps like that. What block are you using?

Bit worried about my VRM temps though, even though I've put heatsinks on them still seem kinda hot when running furmark (80s) in everest though when gaming only in the low 60s is this OK?

I'll have to keep an eye on that then as I won't be putting on a full cover block either.

What's slightly annoying though is that techpowerup review. They must have had a modded bios to do this but haven't said anything more about it or put it up on their site when I'm sure they know we want it.

So you can't use powerplay at all then?

If there are some that don't have this issue (which I'm guessing there must be), what's the link between those that do?

I'll definitely be testing lots of HD video playback tomorrow when I install my 5850 so I'll report back then.

I've added a link to the MSI 5870 bios in the OP just because I had already put the Asus one there. Of course I'll add the 5850 one when it becomes available.

on that thread only 1 person said the voltage adjustment in MSI afterburner works , another person says it doesn't

I don't think that guy's card could have a tweaked bios on it actually. The guy from MSI that posted the 5870 one said 3 days ago;

We haven't receive mass production bios of 5850, I will release it once I have it.

The MSI cards won't have the tweaked bios yet. I think the first see of it is when he posts it, or an Asus one appears.

Got mine installed this morning but I've got some issues with the driver. I'm using it with a 1080p display via HDMI and it's not filling the screen completely. It's as if it's applying some underscan which it doesn't need to do and there's no control for it. Also it refuses to do 1080p 50hz.

Also, I've got the driver listed on the AMD site which appears to be 8.66 but on the ATI site it lists as 9.9 which when downloaded doesn't seem to have all of the components in it and subsequently doesn't install a driver!

Total pants so far. :(

Woohoo!! It works :)

Seems there was a bit of ATI noobishness going on!! :D Didn't see the right click option in Destops and Displays on the bottom row.

Right, more testing and then watercooling.

Some benchmark results for ya'll (all with [email protected] and gpus at stock speeds);

GTX260
3Dmark06 - 16989 (7067/7127/5476)
Crysis Bench Tool - 1080p/All High/DX9 - 40avg,28min,51max

5850
3Dmark06 - 20007 (8047/9356/5500)
Crysis Bench Tool - 1080p/All High/DX9 - 56avg,32min,70max
1080p/All High/8xAA/DX9 - 48avg,27min,57max

Photos later after I've fitted the block.

OK here's some more AA in crysis bench tool results and DX10 very high. For some reason it switches to 1080i 30hz when running DX10 which is annoying and was the same with the GTX260 IIRC.

Crysis Bench Tool -
1080p/All High/DX9 - 56avg,32min,70max
1080p/All High/4xAA/DX9 - 45avg,25min,53max
1080p/All High/8xAA/DX9 - 48avg,27min,57max
1080p/All High/16xAA/DX9 - 48avg,27min,58max
1080p/All Very High/DX10 - 30avg,18min,35max

So, over 4xAA it's not working for some reason. It look like it's probably applying 2xAA.

Block is on!! :D
