*** Official Opteron 170 Ocing Thread ***

Have heard that the 0550 VPMW are suppose to be better clockers than the 0550 UPMW. Any evidence to back this up.

Also how about CCB1E 0550 VPMW compared to CCBWE 0550 VPMW?
I always thought it was the 0550 that was important on these chips.

At 2.8ghz and three hrs in : CCBWE 0550 UPMW

Had to alter my ram settings after first attempt but up to now looking good :)

Would do 2.7 on stock vcore 1.3v but needed a little bump for 2.8ghz

since when has 1.3v been stock vCore?

Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor Details
CPU ID Dual-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor Model 170
Model 170
Ordering Parts Number (OPN) OSA170CDBOX
Stepping E6
Frequency 2.0GHz
HyperTransport™ Technology Speed 1000MHz
Integrated Memory Controller 2.0GHz
Core Voltage 1.3 V/1.35 V
Case Temperature 49° C to 65° C
Wattage 110.0W
L2 Cache Size 2 MB
L2 Cache Speed 2.0GHz
Manf. Technology .09 micron SOI
Socket Socket 939
Amperage 80 A

Thats the voltage rating from AMD

I am currently at 1.36 v which by looking at it is slightly over what these chips are rated to run at.

what cooling is that?

air?

what?

I'm gonna take mine higher after testing at 2.8ghz

you should prime 95 instead BTW that sp2004 is based on an older version of prime with GUI.

The new prime is optimised for dual core apparantly

TBH who care's wether its 1.3 or 1.35 If it overclocks 700 mhz without needing a boost in voltage! :D :p :)
keep your hat on? its a perfectly reasonable question?

Read that doc above (page 9) it seems the stock vCore can vary depending on which stepping/code you have... reading now.

hey I was joking! ;) Having a laugh and smiling at these incredible chips! :p

@ easyrider...that is aircooling, but in a semichilled room...approx 15 degrees.
Yes, I'm aware of that..will use Prime95 as the final prime before settling on a decent clock.

@ Devious ...it's a 678L50***

Agreed. Whether stock volts were 1.3 or 1.35 - it wouldnt stop any of us from pushing more volts through it to see what the limit is. Also i doubt many boards claiming to put 1.35v into cpu are actually putting 1.35v in. They are never accurate and only way to be sure is to use a multimetre but even then if the temps are fine then why worry what the volts are?
