Hi Clint,

Yes, the stepping of CCBWE 0550UPMW is at OcUK, if you want to know the stepping before you get it. They won't tell you. You will just have to order it and hope for the best. If it isn't what your after you can always send it back... Hope this Helps.

Just ordered a 170 from OCUK, hopefully a 0550 UPMW stepping.

Trashed my 165 (scraped the PCB during IHS removal - dead cpu :().

Oh no ! Mind you...I did this with my favourite 146. Was about to stamp on it when my daughter suggsted trying it. I had chopped off 3 of the resistors. To my amazement, it worked fine, in actual fact, I was able to clock it higher with less voltage.

Put it in and give it a try, you never know....

Hi mercyless,

thanks for that, you bugger! :p Now I have three times the problem picking one :)

CCB1E 0550VPMW
CCBWE 0546XPMW
CCBWE 0550UPMW

I'm reading up on all the forums now, my eyes are gonna melt soon, you guys do realise that I only just built my first A64 system about three weeks ago! (146 @ 2.9GHz) Now I'm picking through steppings of dual-cores, what the heck has happened and is there a cure!!!

CCBWE 0550UPMW
Without a doubt, this is the one you want to try and get. Nearly every single one has hit 2.8ghz on very low volts. Its rumoured to be the same core as the FX60

Amazingly enough I found it here in Sweden :D
Must be the same batch that has hit these parts of EU, so I strongly believe that it's gonna be the same.
Anyway, after a quick glance one could allways send it back if not the right numbers on the package ;)

But how long time have OcUK had this particular stepping?

Didn't knock any resistors off but cut into the pcb slightly (copper showing). Should've gone with the razor blade idea instead of a scalpel.

Tried it and the pc now fails to post, no boot 'beepcode', all fans spining, mobo lights up etc:(

Hopefully (if I do get a UPMW) this will be prime stable over 2600 (my old 165 managed 2600) and serve as an expensive lesson.

can boot 3ghz with less volts 1.52, raise it to run p95 etc,0 core failing in a few minutes ,1 core goes on and on.
CCBWE 0550UPMW maybe a good stepping but you cant rule out CCB1E 0550VPMW either

I have a CCB1E 0550 165 and a CCBWE 0550 170 was gonna keep which ever clocks best. Have 165 currently at 2.84ghz prime stable dunno now whether to bother with 170 as it is unlikely to beat this? What do you think?
Also you can still get 170's in stock in the UK for less than £300 dunno why overclockers are charging £352.

wether its dual core optimised or not the fact that sp2004 stress tests the cpu 100% is enough to test whether a system is stable or not.

You misunderstand, dual core is irrelevant.

Put simply Prime95 version 23 (and thus SP2004) is not optimised for the Athlon64 architecture, the only Athlons it is optimized for is Athlon XP.

Windows may report 100% utilisation but fact is version 23 Prime95 and SP2004 do not utlize Athlon 64 CPU's nearly as much as version 24 does, so passing SP2004 is not exactly a good diagnosis of stability.

Even if there was a place in the UK you could get opterons from we couldn't tell ya, forum rules ;)

As for your 170 beating your 165. Its most certainly likely. What voltage are you pumping through your 165 at 2.84ghz?

You could possibly his 3ghz with your 170 with a good amount of cooling and a few volts. But the CCBWE 0550 UPMWs are a bit illergic to volts. :(

Oh well, good luck mate.

Just got the info on the chips, it says:

CCBWE 0550 UPMW
1387434L50XXX

Hmmm I have a feeling that ain't good news :( but then again I could be wrong, but I was hoping it would say 408L

Sealed Packages, hmmmm

so task managers is telling me fibbs when I see cpu usage at 100%?

In a way yes.

No program is 100% efficient (meaning 100% of the CPU is being used 100% of the time), the closest you can get is probably Prime95(V24) which is why lots of people swear by it.

Prime95(V23) is far less efficient than V24 on K8 architecture, try running benchmark mode on both of them V24 is a lot faster.

What do those highlighted numbers mean, and why is 408L better?
I'm curious becaue I've got one coming, hopefully tomorrow.
