Those numbers are called the "Batch Number". I have a 408L in my machine and it clocks very very well.

What you have to undertand with a processor is that "Batch" or "Stepping" or what every has slightly different chararcteristics for OCing. It could be that Big.Wayne has managed to find himself a CPU that likes volts and there for can clock it through the roof. Or, more likely, its probably not going to clock as well as a 408L batch...

well they are from an auction I won, new and sealed still, but I haven't recieved them.

Those numbers that I highlighted are something called *Wafer-Charge*, it's getting a bit complicated now. . .

Stepping = Correct
Batch Number = Correct
Manufactured Date = Correct
Wafer-Charge= Incorrect?

Trying to get some feedback on this otherwise I will be heading down the same path as Devious (i.e: a bedroom full of boxed opterons!!)

Well had my 170 for a while now and its clocked a 2.5Ghz on both cores but my memory doesn't like low memory divdiers so I'll need to get some more ram, fancy the g.skill hz 2gb kit.

I'll post my stepping later tonight, I have it written down some where.

Luck of the draw I guess..needed it after trashing my 2.6ghz 165.

I'll post some pics after I've run off a few prime sessions.

Yeah it would. My memory could be a weak point as far as bandwidth goes though coz with the [email protected] (289x9) I had to run it on a 166 divider with 2.5-3-3-7 that could be down to a poor memory controller on the 165 though. If I can run this 170 @ 289x10 I will be very happy

hi guys, i need some help.

i can't seem to get my opty 170 to pass prime95 past 2.6ghz. 1 core fails instantly. i've got p95 running in 2 seperate folders.

spec as follows (swiped from dfi sig):
DFI LanParty UT nF4 SLI-D (bios 6-23)
AMD Opteron 170 0546 xpmw
2GB (2x1GB) Crucial Ballistix PC4000 (3-3-3-8@1T)
BFG 7800GT 490/1180
Tagan TG580-U15
Samsung Spinpoint SP120 IDE
2xSony IDE DVD drive
Gigabyte G-Power Pro
Samsung 913n 19" TFT
XP Pro Service Pack 2

i've tried relaxing timings and using different dividers, and i tried the setting hesky posted, but to no avail

to all the DFI owners: what BIOS are you using as i feel this is my only option left???

The answer could lie in three things.

1) You have a poor clocking 170
2) You need a few move volts
3) You need better CPU cooling.

I have a feeling it could be a combination of all three. >_< But lets just hope it could just be a BIOS revision thing...

Yes, I ordered mine on sunday - received today.

Currently priming both cores @2.7ghz...this is without any tweaks whatsoever - everything at default settings!!!

Gonna leave it like that and prime overnight..give the AS5 time to settle in a little before I start pushing it.

Lovin this chip so far.
