*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

I am NC, so are the pump ones better?

Do what sleepy says and try out the VR range but remember you’re not shooting moving targets in the VR range, I went for a shotgun after getting owned by the VS shotguns but they are nothing alike, might be better off with a SMG.

So do you recommend i buy a certain gun or anything? Game is downloading atm any tips for a new starter?

Go in VR and test what weapons you like the most, but Rockets Pods and the second Burster for the Max should be bought first. The second burster allows you to become really effective against aircraft while the Rocket Pods allows you to hit ground grounds and air targets when flying.

If you going to fly the Liberator, then you will need the Zepher and Dalton, but you could get away with just the Zepher. I recommend the Walker for the rear turret.

After that it's really up too you and your playstyle and faction.

Which shotty is regarded as the best?

The Pump-Action shotgun after that it's the Auto-shotguns.

But there is a "nerf" coming to them in the next patch, so who knows what they be like after that, likely ruined.

Can someone tell me the objectives of taking over bases? Im totally new to PS2 but find when I attack a base with loadsa other people Im running around aimlessly. Do you have to destroy certain things? I have found myself ontop of the base building blocked by the enemy forcefield and I cant get to them.

Right, decided to have a punt on this over the weekend, never played planetside at all,so any pointers for a total novice to PS2? :)

Most bases have cap points, these are normally called A, B, C and D.

You must put players around these areas to "cap" it and take control. You can only "cap" a base if your nation controls the same hex to you (tho sometimes you can cap areas in the middle of no where, don't want to explain why, it's too long)

Anyway, these "cap" points have numbers next to them like 2 or 6. So more players on these points, faster the base converts to your nation.

In really big bases, there are power rooms, these generators have to be overloaded by pressing the "action key" when these blow, the shields goes down allowing vehicles or infantry to pass through the entry and exit points, the same key can be used to stop them overloading if you defenders.

In Tech Plants, there is a SCU, these allow infantry to spawn at the base, overload this after all the generators are killed to stop infantry from spawning at the base.

At the same thing, these big bases have small outposts that allow infantry to spawn at, take these bases first to control the area.

Infantry can "walk tho" the gate shields at the large bases for a extra tip.

My biggest advice is to find a Outfit to join and play with them and use voice comms as much as you can.

Try out the aircraft in VR before you spend anything on weapons for them!

The flight model is really odd compared to PS1, I spent most of my time in a mossie in PS1 but can't stand flying in PS2.

If they'd let you assign bank left & right to your mouse instead of just the keyboard it would be bearable, rather than officially infuriating.

They really need to fix rendering in this game.

I was doing some high speed bombing at max speed at ground height in my Mossy in Esmair at the NC Warpgate and Infantry would show up in the pretty much last second or two, had some awesome kills but it really needs to be better.

Esamair is my favourite map, but the AV Turrets and Phoneixes have ruined Tank Warfare to be honest in this map, it's hard to have a proper tank fight when there is Infantry around with lock-on launchers and the AV Turrets. I wouldn't mind as much if you could see what's hitting you other then the slow "ding ding" as you just take damage out of no where.

Made lots of certs today, in under 2 hours I made 280 certs at the Crown just killing stuff at TJ Alloyes which turned into a 3 way fight, NC attacked the VS at TJ and for the first two waves, TR pretty much saved the VS there as we killed all their vehicles that came over the bridge from the Bio Dome, by the third wave there was too many and the NC was inside the base, so nothing lost, just more to kill. :)

Is it me or is hitting infantry on top of the building at TJ really weird? Sometimes you can hit someone over and over and they don't die which really confuses me since it's a flat roof and and I can see the splash exploding next to them but they don't die or even look like they suffering any damage, soon as they drop to the ground then they die and suffer damage as normal.

Some low level n00b (13) kept firing rockets at me and told me in tell, that he just wanted to annoy me. Really, friendly fire adds nothing to this game other then harm, any silly ideas that it adds to "tactical play" really haven't played that much when everyone just shoots all over the place and throws a million grenades inside tower fights and dome fights. If this has to stay, then there should be a level cap or something that only allows high level players to deal friendly damage.

A cheater turned up later and allowed the NC to take the Crown, wheres the GM's, no where.

Other then that, am happy with how am doing today, I spent 500 certs on Extended Mags for my left Bruster Arm (500) and bought the 1.75 scope for my Prowler (150), need a other 280 for my right Bruster Arm now.

After that, I think I will spend more certs on my Medic, I need 500 certs for the final level for the healgun, then need to upgrade the armour. Enjoying playing the Medic, getting crazy XP reviving people.

Also I found out how buggy Resist Shield is! I can't believe I spent so much certs on this and it bugs out, forcing you to restart the game. :l

It's TI alloys just for reference.

Re Phoenix etc - We could say the same for the Striker not in terms of render distance necessarily but just in countering it. A group of semi-intelligent people with those on decent terrain and you just can't get near them with vehicles, sure flares/smoke stops one but it's just lock on after lock on. Personally I feel of the new launchers the Striker needs tweaking in damage very slightly (nothing massive), Phoenix is in a good place now they've stopped it being an infantry sniper which was just silly, Lancer needs improving though, I've still yet to see someone using it let alone die to it.

But... faction weaponry/rivalry aside fact is they've added far too many rocket launchers/anti-vehicle stuff/anti-air stuff. There is far too much lock on everything in the game as it stands. Frankly I wouldn't be sad if they removed a few and refunded people's station cash or certs.
Either that or just reduce the damage they do to vehicles across the board so you need some teamwork to take out an armour column not just everyone go HA and spam rockets at everything. Certainly need to do something to help vehicles a little because at the moment it's just infantry zerg counters everything no matter what faction you play.

I don't find tanks too bad to play at the moment. I can still get kills, but I have to be careful about running headfirst into a zerg now.

It used to be just silly before the changes to HE. "I'm not able to pwn everything anymore" does not equal "it's broken".

First I'm not a big tank user. Second I'm not saying tanks should be able to farm infantry in the way they used to, arguing for a reversal of HE nerfs or anything like that. I'm just saying they shouldn't be so easy for random groups of infantry to kill like they're no real threat. See this weekend people are just foot rushing vehicles/playing HA more because they know it's a relatively easy 2k xp (with my level of boost). We've had periods where vehicles were far too dominant, Rocket spamming ESFs and HE spamming tanks as two examples, I just feel it's now gone too far the other way because they've added so many methods to kill vehicles.
