*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

It's possible to have quite large fronts so flanking will still be viable. The game continues to evolve and gets better with every patch, just wish I had time to play it.

That's why I'm looking forward to it, you should actually have fronts now - proper lines of combat that get pushed back and forth. I can't see how people would think it will make combat linear. Let's face it, warpgate -> Crown is pretty linear at the moment anyway :)

Since they changed the cert system slightly, I'm enjoying it much more. I played a LOT, but because I am more a support role rather than a cert farmer I wasn't being rewarded. (My main class is heavy, but I go for team goals rather than worry about getting points).

Been a member for 3 months, but have just stopped my subscription. We'll see how the lack of priority in queue's will affect me (especially given as I'm leading an outfit platoon tonight for an inter-outfit op lol).

Any tips for a Planetside noob? I've got a new system so I downloaded it but am slightly overwhelmed by how much "stuff" there is.

Top newbie tips:

General: You get points for killing things and achieving victories (Like capping bases, flipping 'points' (A,B, C etc in bases), hacking consoles etc etc), and from those points you earn "Certs". These certs you can then spend on items like better guns, new abilities etc. The default kit is pretty good so don't worry about being underpowered (although it may feel like it initially). You also earn 'resources' whilst playing, and these can be spent at any time to spawn vehicles, replenish your grenades/c4 etc, buy a MAX suit, spawn an aircraft... these are just naturally recurring and you get these over time (you can run out pretty quick though so try to manage them).

1) Go kill a few things with a random squad, try to find a squad that issues orders and you can follow them.
2) Once you have enough certs (about 50 i think)... buy "AMS" modification for the sunderer vehicle... EQUIP IT onto the Sunderer. Press B to deploy the sunderer so people can spawn on it.
3) If you plan on leading, after Battle Rank 10, you can buy a spawn beacon. This will MASSIVELY help any squad you are leading, by placing it on somewhere (it's like a weapon) and your team can drop pod in using it.
4) Go have fun. Look out for 'double xp' weekends and stuff like that.
5) If playing a heavy remember that you can press F to use your secondary shield, if medic you can press F to regen health of yourself and those around you, if you are an engineer you can be manning a turret and press B to drop ammo (I think you may have to spec this ability properly though).
6) Do NOT destroy terminals/consoles... this will only **** off your own team, who would like to hack them to deny the enemy usage and/or the ability for your own team to pull vehicles/equipment. You are likely to get Team Killed if running in a squad and you get caught doing it. This one is purely a community thing btw.

Will have to see.

I think it will harm players performance since if you going from A to B, then that means zergs of zergs will run into each other.

When your FPS drops to unplayable and skippable levels and the render distance is reduced by so much that players, be it friendly, enemy and their vehicles pop in and out of existence at 50m or even 100m.

Speaking of recent experience of this "fun" where I and the rest of my TR zerg was holding Jeagers Crossing against the NC attack where enemy vehicles from their tanks to their aircraft would disappear from the distance of the landing pads to the edge of our side of the bridge, which is roughly 100m or so, maybe less. Strikers and other lock on weapons became useless, let alone the 100's of times I was shooting someone only to see them to disappear, must had been quiet bad for a sniper during that time.

Maybe am wrong, but am pretty sure there is hints of truth in this but nothing is for sure until we see it go live in the server. I know this for truth, when this gets added to the server it will break tons of stuff like all their patches do.

I went for 6 month premium in the end, currently getting over 100% XP with a boost :D

Awesome ain't it, I can't wait for the next double XP weekend.

Some things am looking forward to and not looking forward too is the new Max Passives.

The VS get a skill where they can increase their firepower by reducing their defence, sounds bad right? Well yes and no, you wouldn't want to use this in a Biolab since you just gonna be smashed, but equip it on a AA Max and you gonna reap the skies as you tear apart aircraft with ease.

TR gets the lock-down mode, this is going to be like a Anti-Air version of the Prowler, so don't think about flying over TR when we have AA Maxes locked-down which doubles their rate of fire, projectile speed and reload speed. (I can already kill one ESF without reloading)

NC gets a shield. This shield better disable weapons and there better be a timer delay from switching between them.

Gonna be rage about all three when they get added, but they seem to have added a speed-run cert, so that's gonna be cool.

Oh it will, as it is SOE. That's one of their specialities.

Lattice change wil take some adjustment, but before long everyone will forget about it & carry on.

SOE's biggest problem atm is the one-hit-wonder shotguns. Higby needs his head examined if he actually thinks it improves overall gameplay for the whole playerbase.

If SOE aren't careful, it could turn out to be PS2's equivalent to BFR's.

When I thought about it, it's worth paying, got a VS sniper I wanted in sale for 350 SC and they continue to update and improve the game. I'll re-evaluate in 6 months time, hopefully I'll sub again! :)

I lol'd, I really did :D

So did I he switches so easily between rejoicing in how op the TR ability sounds to calling for limitations or nerfs on the NC one before either are in the game. Guess thats the kind of factional tribalism this game inspires, I'm probably guilty of it too at times. Honestly though with the way maxes get focus fired by most groups I don't see a shield helping much, they'll still get shredded by any group with 2 brain cells to knock together.

Anyway, not had much of a go on the test server yet but mostly liking it. Glad the crown is being changed, that place is a blight upon the whole game. Still fear it will turn into unplayable zerg.vs zerg fights everywhere but I'm more optimistic than when they first posted it. The map does need to change, perhaps this will be the lesser evil if not a perfect solution.

Renewed my sub too so I guess Soe are doing well out of us lot. Still hooked on the game, just hope they have Hossin and another continent in by the end of the year. Got 3.5k certs saved atm, in two minds whether to spend them on vehicle or heavy assault upgrades ( thinking of trying adrenaline shield ) or wait for the max revamp in the next couple of weeks. Loving light assault too.... Medic is still my favourite though.

If you are up against a MAX, always try to take out the supporting medic/engy as a priority. Sacrificing yourself will safe multiple lives of your allies if the max can't get res'd/repaired.

One on one... get as close as possible and pin the max against a wall or into a corner so you are inside his cone of fire.

I'll be interested to find out what the NC Shield is. Is it physical, or an energy shield (like the heavies. Personally I found it odd that the -all- MAX's didn't have a shield given the heavy does but then, it is intended to be supported by engies.

Also..I'm waiting for SOE to inappropriately cave and bring in some form of 'uber charge' like in TF2 for MAX's. Now THAT would be OP.

Thanks I'll refer back to these in the coming days.

In PS1 it was an energy shield which prevented you firing when turned on. In PS2 I'm hoping this will be more like the Heavy shield in that you'll be able to fire but it won't last as long, though it would be good for them to give us the option i.e. no firing - better shield, fire through shield = weaker or shorter shield.

But then in PS1 the scat max had one gun with three fire modes (tighter spread) and it's health was divided into health and armor (for which you had explosives and armour piercing bullets to deal with).

I whole-heartedly agree with this.

Shotguns are the worst thing they've put in this game tbh. I'm sure all factions are fed-up of being one-shotted by these god awful things. Add in an increase in RoF and it gets worse.

Instead of putting in new weapons that are OP'd and makes people buy with SC to keep up with the Jones's (then nerf a month later) they should be concentrating on the Meta game as even with the new Lattice system proposals, it's nigh on non-existant.

There's little to no reason to defend a base as the bonuses for repelling an enemy is zilch. You might as well let them cap the base & then take it back as you get sweet fa for flushing attackers out before a capture. Makes no sense to defend anything & increases the zerg mentality to score points. Yes I know there's a small increase in XP around a base that you hold, but is 5-10% extra XP worth it?

Even capping is bypassed by so many as you might as well chase kills & leave the standing around the cap point to others which invariably happens and slows down captures. They should give the first 6 people around a cap point a trickling XP gain for actually capping a point instead of kill hunting and still getting the same & more XP.

The game is heading downhill at the moment and our Outfit aren't particularly enjoying it which is a shame as it's got such great potential, but when Item sales are of obvious more importance (aka cash grab) than increasing longevity of the game, it usually ends up one way.

F2P is good, but also has it's obvious downsides too.

I've always felt that the smaller bases are just way too insignificant which leads to whole lack of defence.

It's either being zerged, in which, are you really going to redirect your zerg to get involved in that over a 250xp flip? a waste of time and resources. Or it's being Ghost Capped, in which are you really going to redirect your zerg/squad to get involved in that over a 250xp flip? a waste of time and resources. So it doesn't really matter if there is an XP bonus or not, those small bases give nothing, flip quickly and exchange hands constantly - it just isn't worth the effort to deal with them.

The new hex/lattice should go in some way to solve that due to it being split into set lanes you have to push/defend, so there won't be much of a choice in going all in on defending a smaller base as if that's where the progress is on the lane that's where you will be.

I hope it's similar to PS1 but they should add a 1-2sec 'activation/deactivation' period where it can't fire because if the ScatMax user has a half decent aim you're lucky if you have time to say 'fu...' before you're dead.

At least in PS1 you got to say the last 2 letters as well before you died :)

Atleast it isnt like the original PS. VS maxes could fly :|

They needed to though because their AI Max's weapon was pretty weak.

VS AI maxes were only good when they were backed up by grunts as anyone you were fighting was usually distracted by the max, meaning you could pick them off.
