I assume pop locks will still exist?

Who knows!

Personally, I'm in two minds about this, on the one hand no pop locks mean you will get truely huge battles. I think in the original PS, the pop locks were there due to server limitations, and while with the power of today's hardware that shouldn't be such an issue. Though if we're getting hitboxes and server side hit detection then that does add extra demand.

On the other hand, do we really want 1000 people crammed into one base, all zerg rushing into the mid point? By limiting the number of players, you create fights on other continents, giving people more choice as to where they fight? Though on the other hand, you can probably just go and do that anyway if you're bored. Start to cap a cont, the enemy will respond by sending defence, and more people will join both sides and soon you'll have a second large battle going on there.

In other news, anyone smell fish?

So is this going to be a "buy crap for a couple of quid every few days or you'll always be ****" style game then?

Shame really it had promise :(

I believe the things you buy will not improve your ability in game - more of a social aspect (I hope)

Care to share where you found this huge piece of information, or is it a completely baseless comment based on nothing? ;)

^^ From approx 1 billion tweets and dev chat videos of which there are now hours and hours for you to watch.

They have stated many times that they like the LOL F2P model.
The basic game will be free to play.
There will be a cash shop. It will contain LOTS of cosmetic items.
Think "go faster stripes" , "hood ornaments" and "shades".
There MAY be XP boosts available.
NOTHING in the store will boost your in game stats, skills or anything else.

Just as long as the crap you buy doesn't ruin the game e.g. TF2 hats and all the other totally pointless crap that has (IMO of course).

The thing is, PS1 was pay to play. I was perfectly happy spending £7.50 a month to play the game normally. So with PS2, that's my upper limit on spending. I'm not going to buy stuff for the sake of it, but equally if there are going to be items and so on which alter the gameplay, then I will certainly consider it, because that's how much monthly I'm willing to spend on the game to enjoy myself.
Of course, it does depend on what they are offering. Exp boosts might be nice at the start to give myself a leg up, but later on I probably won't mind about it too much. And they would have to be careful to balance any 'stat' boosts, since if the boost isn't large enough then nobody would buy it, and make it too large and people will complain.

But looking at it realistically, its way too early to comment on it, without knowing what exactly the plans are. Of course they are going to sell stuff, they are a business, but it remains to see what.

Yeah its crazy i Was more than happy to play a sub but when its micro transactions they make me shudder.... As long as its not £5 gets you a jackhammer for 30 days or whatever and purely cosmetic i couldn't give a rats arse. I played APB for a few months and that was purely pay to win with their micro transactions.

As long as its better than BF3, which cant be hard, im on this.. its going to be huge for the first month at least!

That would officially suck lol - Rental Vanguards, you have to pay to refuel it. :D

If they follow the EQ2 model I'm not too worried. A lot of that is either a one time payment for access to a particular aspect of the game (auction house and the like), access to particular classes and races, and then a ****ton of cosmetic stuff and mounts.

I don't mind having to pay once off charges if I think it's worth it - like Tribes Ascend, where a tenner is almost enough to 'buy' the entire game.

I'm hoping they have some sort of Silver and Gold subscription model, Silver for free play and Gold gets a permanent exp boost?

Maybe the gold could get a certain amount of cash shop "Station Cash" for subscribing? I would be happy to pay £7.50 a month for exp and some "Station Cash" for spending on customising.

Nothing from the Gold subscription should give that player an advantage over Silver.

Play in the USA? Why wouldn't you want to play with as many people as possible? ESPECIALLY if you are playing at unusual hours, then european servers may be pretty dead, whilst US servers may suit your times better.

Dont get me wrong i see no reason why they wouldn't let people join whichever server they so desire im just saying for the vast majority of people playing on a server with a stable ping far outweighs loosing a few internet randoms off my friends list.

I only played ps1 during the beta (i think at the time i was waiting for starwars galaxies) so my knowledge is limited but i assume they started merging the servers once the game was dying off and they didn't have enough people to fill multiple server yes?

For me personally, I'm part of an Arma 2 community who do like to jump in to other games with that tactical mindset and there's at least 60 of us who are going to be playing, but they are mostly U.S based so will follow them.

All in all I don't know how many will stick to it but I can see some fun time ahead with decent logistics and communication brevity.

I just can't decide what to play, I also only played in the beta and then a few months into live and tinkered around, I found myself mostly sticking to a MAX suit but often without a decent group of people to play with and coming up against air as anti-infantry or similar.

But I'm a flyboy at heart, love the freedom and firepower, listened to one of the casts saying they want them to be more maneuverable and have the ability to roll/pitch over, hopefully this is sticking.

How about if you think of it as school? There were two primary schools in the area, but one shut down so you and all your friends moved to the other primary school on the other side of town, where you spent a couple of years and made a ton of new friends. But then you go to secondary school and you have to move to one that was on your side of the town again, while all the new friends you made had to go to the secondary school on their side of town, and you lose all the friends you made.

Well, it sounded better in my head!
