*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Not been playing this since the first month of release. Which EU server is recommended these days?

Looking for the most active really.

I would go with Cobalt. It is fairly balanced. Just avoid Miller, it is just infested with TR players who are on 24/7 and they always have 40-45% population.

Thinking about making an account and starting to play, but not played anything like this before, so have some questions.

I make a character and pick a server and they are on that server forever right? I can play on other servers, but have to make another character? Same with factions, am I stuck with whatever I pick?

Another thing that is putting me off the game. People just seem to be constantly moaning about balance. Are the servers really that unbalanced in favour of certain factions? or is it just people exaggerating as normal?

Thanks

At present yes you make a character and they're tied to one server/faction and really once you find the faction you like either in terms of weapons, looks or both then just stick with it, it isn't worth playing two sides.
Server transfer tokens are in development. You can make characters on any server US or EU.

Population balance between factions on some servers is bad so I'd go for Cobalt or Woodman at present, in terms of weapons and vehicle balance yes some things a over or underpowered at times but in general a lot of the complaining is over the top.

Miller is a TR zerg-fest & quite un-enjoyable now.

Woodman is OK but I've found players are not of the same skill level/co-ordination as Miller (personal observation) but still a decent balanced server.

As for weapon balance... the game never will be as they have to keep people buying Station Cash to buy weapons and that means they bring out a new OP gun, every buys it, then they "tweak it" aka nerf it. Rinse, repeat.

Server transfers were supposed to be available sometime this month, but I can see it being pushed back

How have the changes to the game been over the past months? Haven't kept up to date is the game much better?

Game had/has so much potential and was a hell of a lot of fun. Just needed more of an overall objective! :)

Thanks, will try it out anyway, free so nothing to lose.

So downloaded it on steam, logged into my account and now it says installing 3.6GB or so (seems to be downloading rather than just installing). What's that all about, is it an update? is the steam download just the base game & no updates and where is it sticking it as I had no option, I'd guess same folder as steam download.

Any questions ask away, also what faction/server did you pick? If you see yourself playing for more than a brief period I highly recommend joining an outfit (clan), as it's much more fun played in a group and they'll be able to help you learn as well.

I'm enjoying Blacklight more at the moment, I imagine Planetside 2 is a game which works best in clans. I chose a EU server and Vanu Sovereignty.

Did they ever get around to enabling server transfers? Could do with moving my Vanu off Miller. :p

This month supposedly. Not sure how much it will cost though.

I'm likely going to sell my Vanu account. It's Battle Rank 83 with tonnes of unlocks, 7000 cert points, 5000 station cash, loads of camos, guns etc just not happy where the game is going with the constant TR population imbalance, weapon balancing, poor frame rate and constant nerfing.

My main's NC on Woodman, but I started a vanu on miller the other night for a change of scenery, and my very first thought was "holy crap, look at all the maxes!" :D

Now think how I feel trying to kill them as NC... :S Though I imagine numbers will drop off if the brutal changes on test server go through, (they take more damage when ZOE is active and it only has 8 second duration).

Minigun is getting a decent buff, it's acting like a proper Minigun, even the audio of it firing sounds about right. Going to start certing into my Miniguns now.

I be honest, it looks pretty OP'ed and I was really was laughing myself silly watching it. Can't wait to use it.

ZOE is getting more nerfs, 30% armour reduction and a timer when used allows the player 8 seconds of ZOE usage, also reduced indirect damage from bursters while using ZOE. Lock-Down with Bursters have got a nerf too.

Had an hour or so playing, no idea what to do, so just followed the pack and shot at the enemy.Seems to run okay for the most part, but seems to have random fps drops especially outside. Not sure if that's the game or my cpu (x4 [email protected]).

Also had the usual. Someone telling people they are noobs in the chat and another telling them to stfu :D.

Seems some things are the same no matter what game you play.

Must admit I have never had the graphics performance issues and my PC is hardly top of the range, perhaps check your clipping distance and render settings - mine are custom settings, most aren't set at high as I can't really tell the difference!

Never had trash talking on Miller/VS, surprisingly well behaved bunch of people, although there is the occassional ****ging of NC/TR in text chat during bio lab fights :) Took me a week or so of playing to really get to grips with how the game works but I'm enjoying the odd fight, pretty casual player though

hi guys

Can you let me know what head phones you are using for ps2,

im currently using the corsair wireless vengeance 2000 but looking to upgrade

GU11 Weapon and Vehicle Changes

The below are the major weapon and vehicle changes planned for GU011.

Vehicle and MAX Resource Costs

The majority of vehicles and the MAX units will be getting a resource cost increase with this update. The new values are based on data that we have collected from the Live servers, and our goal is to even out the resource costs with their related income rates.
New Costs:
Flash: 150
Sunderer: 400
Lightning: 400
Magrider: 450
Vanguard: 450
Prowler: 450
Scythe: 250
Reaver: 250
Mosquito: 250
Liberator: 350
Galaxy: 350
Harasser: 400
MAX: 350

MAX Abilities

The Burster buffs when using the VS ZOE and TR Lockdown abilities will be reduced.
The damage received when the VS ZOE ability is active will be getting increased.
Note: The timer currently on the test server for the ZOE ability is not planned to go live.

Shotguns

All shotguns will be getting a small reduction in damage per pellet. The goal with this change is to reduce slop while keeping the effective kill ranges of the shotguns the same. So glancing hits and spamming without aiming will not be as rewarding, but well-aimed shots should just be as effective as before.
The default ammo count on the pump-action shotguns will be dropping from 5 to 4 rounds. This brings their potential kills per magazine and kills over time more in line with the other weapon classes.

Faction Heavy Weapons

All faction weapons will be getting a pass to make them more effective at their various roles.
Jackhammer: The ammunition capacity of this weapon is being increased to 9 rounds. Also, the burst mode will be gaining a rate of fire increase.
MCG: The fire delay is being removed. Instead, the weapon will fire immediately and the rate of fire will ramp up over time. The hip accuracy is being adjusted to better allow sustained fire.
Lasher: This weapon will receive a rate of fire increase and a slight damage buff, which should allow it to be viable in more situations. Also, ally players will no longer take the full AOE damage.

IRNV Scopes

We feel that the current downsides to this optic (less visibility at range) are negligible when compared to its benefits. We’re going to be adding a very small delay before the night vision is active and a small amount of scope sway to better balance the attachment out.

Flak

Bursters will be getting an accuracy penalty when moving and COF bloom is being added over sustained fire. The goal with this change is keep them just as effective at near range while dropping their effectiveness at extreme ranges (300+ meters).
Skyguards will be getting a projectile speed increase and other stat changes to make them better at range.

Vulcan

The Vulcan has been updated to be more effective at range and now has a larger clip size.
In addition, it has been given a spin up time. The Vulcan still fires during the spin up time, but at a reduced rate.

Sunderer Deployment

Facilities and Outposts on Indar and Amerish now have Sunderer No Deploy Zones. These function just the like No Deploy Radius around allied deployed Sunderers. These zones prevent you from parking your Sunderer right on top of the capture points. You’ll have to fight to the capture points on foot.

Edit: Forgot one. Edit 2: Spelling
Underbarrel Attachments

These have been removed from the weapon selection list and are now mapped to the primary weapon key. Press 1 to swap between the weapon and its attachment.

So vehicles are getting nerfed in the next update. Skyguard is getting a buff which am looking forward too since I use that often. Looking forward to the MCG and Vulcan changes. Ever since I read it was getting buffed I have started to pour certs into it. :D

Personally think some of the resource costs for the vehicles are slightly too high. Flash 150 really? 450 for a MBT really? Someone said they will have to choose between throwing a grenade or using vehicles, that might sound iffy, but there is truth in that.

I'm starting to believe there is more truth in the idea that SOE wants this to be more infantry based then anything and with the upcoming changes to Esmair where pretty much all bases have shield domes and great wall of china walls ringing each base.

I feel for players who don't subscribe to this game, even with 6 month subscription. I can run out resources pretty fast.

Implants are coming soon to PS2 and it sounds like they will be "subscription based" where you can use X amount of SC or 100 certs to unlock them for 1 day or 3 days. Some ideas of Implants will be like more resource gain etc. See where SOE is heading?

Any outfits recruiting? I've only just started playing and having fun but it seems the game would be far more fun when part of a decent outfit. I don't really mind what server or faction as I'm only battle rank 4 at the moment and would be quite happy to start again.
