*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

So a hour of playing on the new Esamir, the one thing that upsets me is that with all the hills, rocks, slopes and trees and walls, it has made tank vs tank duals history.

There is only a few places you could do that and that's around the Warpgates. As you move further out it gets more crowded. So.. I think on the scale of how much cover there is in the map, I think it's a little too much.

But it feels and looks like a new map, so will enjoy it, maybe after a few days of playing in it, I will warm up too the new map.

Well, I think the ANT run thing could be quite cool. It was a massive tactical part of the first game. It might be nice to have it as a Maxx or something that can be picked up.

Taking out the gens on a base though used to be part 1 of game over for the defence (though they had to then re-supply the base with power asap once they took it or it could be flipped again easily by a counter attack - the counter had less objectives to get the base back as power was still out).

In (almost) completely unrelated news I CAN FINALLY FLY (and kill things) \o/ \o/ \o/. Some time in the VR paid off :D

Is anyone aware of a way of triggering any form of waypoint without pulling up the map? Would be nice to just hit a key during the first pass to mark the location for coming back after the reload.

What server does the majority of people on here play? I'm getting bored of running about on my own haha.

Miller, Cobalt, Woodman are generally all pretty busy at peak hours.

I play Vanu on Miller and TR on Woodman.

Pardon my minor "buzz" at the moment too but seriously, even if you think you're **** at flying. Get in the VR simulator, cert up a mossy/scythe/reaver with a decent airframe and fly around a bit, get used to dogfighting (try it in peak time, always another flyer around) and how to do multiple passes on a target (I fly away straight, hit the "max pitch up" key with vertical thrusters for a tight vertical turn, roll out at the top and straight to guns again on target).

Getting the hang of flying in this game is amazing :D Better with friends (wingmen on teamspeak are awesome).

Well, been playing all day on Esamir and what a mess they have made of that map. Yes, it looks pretty, no doubt about that, but topographically is too cluttered, one of my outfit members even went as far to say it felt claustrophobic and in many places it is. I love the twin tower base designs, I love the bases that span roads with a bridge over them and a shield gate. I like they added trees.

But they went overbored on adding walls, it's nothing but walls, in-fact the Esmair is one giant city, where before it was very open and there was wide open spaces between bases it's gone to bases every 500 meters to each other, there are far too many bases and they too large, it's just a big city map dressed in snow and trees and bases that have rings of walls around them, iron curtain style. The walls don't really protect the defenders or the base, there is no stairs to them, only light assaults can get on top of them for the most part and this where the walls fail the most because it allows LA's to camp on the walls overlooking the spawn room. The defenders can't shoot from the walls, there is only a few exits to each base, some even have one which means you can't exit that base because the "zerg vehicle army" that everyone had tears about is camping outside.

The vehicle bay in a lot of the bases have no exits for players to reach too, so if you spawn a vehicle and you want someone to gun for you or mount up a sundy, everyone has to run to the other side of the base and then to the vehicle area. Oh, the vehicle area is being camped too, so soon you pull a vehicle, it's pretty much dead. Now, this doesn't affect me personally since I always pull vehicles from other bases, but it's still silly. Spawn rooms are still camped to death, that's never going to change and the new base layouts suits attackers the most and since there are giant walls all over the base. AA defence isn't as good as it used to be, there is a lot more enemy aircraft flying over bases because AA players have a hard time to hit them.

I said this before, the devs in this game can't find a medium balance, it's always far left or far right with them, no middle ground. They should had changed only half of the bases with the new design and leave the others open or semi open, this would please everyone.

I even read that some of the Sundy garages are within the "No Sundy spawn zones", so nice testing devs! :) They should had released this map as a 4th map, that would had been pretty cool.

I just hit BR99, 1 million XP to go! Going to be the fastest to BR100 in my outfit. :)

Have I got the settings about right for my spec, forgot to mention res is 1920x1200 ?

Spills for christ sake, you can play this game on maxed settings with that sort of PC.

I'm using a Q6600 / 6970 2GB at 3600x1200 on a mix of High settings, my FPS isn't as high as yours will ever be, but it's damn right playable.

Well it doesn't it runs a bit mehh, small battles even drop the frames down to 40's for me its not very smooth thats why im asking.

If your sturggling with those specs then somehtings wrong.

I would suggest you experiment with the following settings and see what has an impact, but dont change too much at once.

Physx, if its on disable it. The benefits dont outway the drops in fps, comedy bugs and constant crashes.

FOV. Dont just max it, work out the correct FOV for your resolution and use it.

Render distance. Reduce it. It defaults to 4000. I set mine to 2000 and saw no changes other than an fps boost. (I dont fly much).

The biggie is render quality. Again dont just max it. Drop it in stages of 10%.
With a ATI 5870 i ran on 75%.
With a 7850 i run on 90%.
Anything more than 100% and the extra effects kick in. The engine starts to supper sample and do more post processing.

Ambient occlusion - disable it.

As a helper, here are my specs.
ATI 7850, 6GB ram and an oldschool i7-930.

I run with most settings on high, a couple on medium and shadows on low.
No Fog shadows, No Ambient occlusion. I have Vysnc On and have set my max fps in the config.
I sit quite comboftably at the 60FPS max 95% of the time.
It hovers bewteen 35 and 60 4% of the time.
And now and again it hits 1fps.

You could be using an 8 core HAL 9000 and you would still get crappy FPS in places.
You need to find the happy medium between what you happy looking at, your average MAX fps and then play with that, accepting that when there is a massive fight, all in one place the game client and server just cant cope and your FPS will drop.

Weak CPU?

Lower the in-game voice channels. Turn off flora in graphics. Turn off particles (or at least low). Turn off, or put them on low. Lower render distance to something sensible.

Also, don't use Physx as it makes the game crash randomly.

Reducing settings still doesn't do much in large battles. 7970ghz edition here and between the lowest settings and the highest settings I see maybe 10-15fps difference, still drops to low 40's with everything on lowest/off in big battles. Be thankful you get that as there's a lot of people with good rigs who for some reason or other get awful fps on this game, low 20's and what not.

Really don't like it that players get a kill credit and you get a death if you logout or suicide. Players should only get a kill if they manage to kill a player. This just feels like cheating really, since you being rewarded for something you didn't do.

Bit of a strange thing to be annoyed over, if you suicide I think it's right that the last player who shot you gets the kill tbh. Same with logging out, especially combat loggers.

Why should the last player get the kill? They didn't kill the player. It's like turning up for a test and leaving half way though and still getting a pass.

Why should people like Daddy be able to artificially improve their stats by screwing over anyone who has the skill to kill them by logging out constantly? It was a needed change to close this loophole and I have no sympathy with people arguing otherwise to be perfectly honest, same with removing deconstruct another thing players like him abused constantly.

It's the same for everyone so sometimes you'll get kills from it too.
