*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

I downloaded this a few days ago via steam and finally got some time to play it last night, or so I thought!

I opened the launcher and it wanted to download another 8gb of data :( seems its a known bug with steam and the launcher and I have to turn off auto updates via steam.

Anyway it should be done by the time im home from work so will give it a spin, any suggestions on race etc or should I try them all?

try all three and see what you think as they all have different weapons etc and then choose a side :)

Yeah, when you spawn, go straight to a world terminal (globe on the screen) and select VR Training. There you can equip any of the guns and drive or fly around as much as you want. Get a feel for how each faction plays and go with that.

Except you have to go NC in the end, cos the other two are rubbish :D

YIP +1 for NC :)

Got this game on the download after finally buying a new pc and able to play the game :)

Anything obvious to do before jumping in, like any differences between the factions and what to save up points for?

edit: just seen the same question was asked just a few posts ago DOH! The VR thingy sounds cool. Just had a look around on a few PS2 pages and Vanu looks cool, any downsides to these guys?

I've got 5500 SC to spend on my NC character, what would you guys recommend? I use all the infantry classes but for vehicles I mainly only use the Reaver, odd occasion I'll use the Lightning.

There's someone selling 5000SC codes on the bay for £26 which saves you around £11 from buying in game. Not bad.

If you are in an outfit, ask the more experienced players what the recommend. Failing that, you could make a post on the official forum. You'll get loads of ideas/suggestions.

Have you maxed out a specific infantry character? If not it's depending on what you like? Infiltrators going for stealth, for me personally I would go out and max the heavy assault with a good ammo/rocket bundle and the gauss saw for starters

Wow. First time forum user and I've come straight to the Planetside 2 thread as it's still the best free game out there.
If you're spending SC make sure you get the bundles as it'll save you loads. Don't worry about visual changes to start with, just get weapons for all your transports and a nice beefy second weapon which , if you buy with SC, can be used by all classes.
I've recntly bought a new graphics card off a work colleague and I can now play this game with everything set to high. It means it even looks as good as it plays.

I ended up just going back to my Woodman VS character, NC on Miller was poor, no big casual outfit to play in and Vanu have a major night zerg which is when I mainly play.

I too thought it was good enough to throw a monthly subscription at. I was sorely disappointed with Battlefield Poor having spent lots of money up front on it.

Vanu all the way (also on Woodman)

hi guys any idea why now I getting in game freezing and a stuttering noise, Ive tried everything from loading optomized defaults in case it a bad overclock Ive chaecked that all files are ok etc but still doing it this has only just happened since thursday

I suppose it could be something intorduced by the new patch, so the problem may not even be from your end.
They are pretty quick at fixing these new bugs though.
There was a patch Thurssday and a hotfix Friday.

Cheers it's so frustrating as it's costing me certs as I'm in my lighting and then all of a sudden stuttering then black screen but can still hear and control my vehicle or character then I'm dead

Personally, I tend to do the following after major patches/releases.

Run your Planetside 2 Launchpad and log in, but do not press play. Click on the Advanced Tools icon (looks like a hexagon surrounding a wrench) in the lower left and then choose the option to open game directory. In the window/folder that comes up, locate, make backups of, and delete the following files:
PlanetSide2.exe
UserOptions.ini
SoundSettings.xml
LoadingScreen.xml
InputProfiles.xml
vivoxoal.dll
vivoxsdk.dll
Once these files are deleted, close the Planetside 2 window/folder and go back to the Launchpad > Advanced Tools/Settings menu. Click on the Validate Game Assets menu option and then press the green Validate button to have the Launchpad check your game files, and download any missing or corrupt files.
