*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Technically you're referring to the RPG element of MMORPGs, Planetside is an MMO FPS, it's basically like other FPS games in that you can customise weapons, choose classes etc. but with the extra bit of being MMO, so thousands of players.

Basically the more combat you're in, the more things you do the more experience/resource you get to unlock customisations and vehicles.

Ah yeah I just realised that :p

Essentially a huge FPS with some customisation etc chucked in to keep it interesting yeah?

I thought they were going for an EVE style unlock-stuff-over-time system or have they now reverted to the PS1 system of getting XP for kills?

i cant believe the big deal you lot are making about this have you got nothing better to do..

god damn i bet you lot are proper geeks in real life, never put a foot wrong god damn, get out abit go have a pint or something...

its a poxy code thats free anyway, plus it can be replaced, i hope they dont let me play it if its all people like you lot...

Aye, Planetside 1 was hugely fun without any customisations, PS2 will hopefully still retain the core fun factor but allow more cool stuff from customisations.

As far as I know there will be both, I'm sure a dev said there would be a trickle allowance of XP over time allowing people who don't play much to still be able to gain for certs while not playing, but obviously there will still be XP for levels?/certs by killing, supporting, capturing etc.

But, we'll see when Beta comes out :)

Funny thing here Wab, you are calling him a lowlife yet you congratulated him when he gave away one of the keys he took from a PCGamer mag..

lol that was a) before I knew he stole it and b) even lowlifes do things at times that make them look better than what they are but even here the truth always comes out. he never said at that time it came from a mag, and if by any chance he did I missed that.

....this be my last comment on this.

Anyway!

Is the deliverer in the game or not? I haven't seen or heard it so I assume it didn't make it which makes me sad :(

Definitely going to be interesting in what specs people go for on air vehicles especially, seeing as you have to choose between things like ECM, ejection system etc.

I'm looking forward to my first mass Galaxy drop on a hotly contested base, everyone on comms and making a strategic strike on the terminal. Holding out against the odds while your team mate completes the hack. The enemy turning from defense to assault you giving the rest of your empire the edge to push in through the outer walls.

Damn I miss planetside, not too long to wait now!

cheers shag..

i just went to tescos and took pics of 2 beta codes lol...

If anyone has a spare key that they managed to take a pic of in a PC Gamer mag, feel free to send it my way :D I haven't been able to find the mag in the stores I've been to.

I don't think either GraveYard nor Dist(the person who received a code from GraveYard) could have made it more obvious it was a stolen code..

So lets just forget about the whole taking pictures of PCGamer mag malarkey and focus on the game. Are Light Assault going to keep the ammo drop ability? Doesn't seem to fit the class very well and is also incredibly OP if you can give yourself Ammo as the E3 footage suggested..

Yeah I feel LA shouldn't have ammo drops, but then I don't see which other class would be best.

Maybe HA, but then you promote spamming/resupply/spamming/resupply.

Personally I think the engineer should have it, but then you overload them, from repairing vehicles, max units, setting up defences etc. adding ammo drops might be one role too much.

how do they make money on this then, micro transactions??

if so is the game still playable and enjoyable without buying owt???

Yeah they state it's not pay to win, and I for one will be buying things in compensation of it being free :)

I think many F2P make a lot more money on micro transactions, and if there is a premium option I'd be happy to pay for such a (I'm hoping) great game.

Ultimately a few £ here and there gives me much more enjoyment than say spending £30 at the cinema for 120 minutes of a film :)

yeah true.

suppose you can play for abut see if you like it aswell.

im guessing there will be some weapons and such that are free but you pay for better 1s???

Apparently not, all the weapons available will be available without spending £ which is something the players and people involved in development have been adamant about.

Things like camo, etc. will be purchasable and there may be some add ons that might be cash limited but they've specifically said you won't have to part with cash to be competitive :) WHich is what I like hearing.

cant argue with that then...

That is pay to win which they have been trying to avoid. They have said that they'll be selling customization so although everybody has access to all of the guns, you can pay to make them look abit different and you can also pay for double xp etc. I hope they don't get lured into pay to win model by the big bosses at Sony, because it would completely ruin the game and probably reduce their profit in the long term.

sony will be pushing for coin tho if every body just plays it as is and hardly spends any money on it...

I think there'll be a lot of PS1 fans who will pay for stuff, I know I'll be spending on some double XP things for a few reasons :

1) Want to experience a lot of certs/classes
2) Want the micro transaction model to work

:)
