Are there still servers running PS1? And is it worth playing while waiting for PS2?

I've often heard about the first PS but kind of assumed it was long gone closed down.

Edit: And how casual friendly is PS2 likely to be? I enjoy gaming but don't get much time to play these days. Was PS1 something you could play for a few hours a week and still enjoy?

The good thing about PS1 and I assume PS2, is that because it is a persistent world, and it's main goal is an MMOFPS, levelling isn't the be all and end all. If you get together with some friends you'll be able to be effective even only playing a couple of hours a week.

Take something like WoW, you could get together with friends, but spending only a few hours a week playing would very quickly leave you behind, they would eventually (if they played more) be higher level and be able to go places in game you wouldn't. With PS1 and PS2, if you can aim and fire you can be effective all the time, the more time spent playing simply opens up more options to you.

So in that regard, the MMOFPS is very much casual friendly as there will never be a time where you log on and say to your friends, what you up to? To which they reply we're doing x instance etc. but you can't join in because you haven't played enough :)

What you'll find is you'll log in, ask, what you up to? And they could very well say, drop pod in on us, we're just about to assault a base.

Shame the BF3 distortion guitar synth thing didn't kick in half way through... lol

Yeah like VaderDSL says the games great, you wont get out leveled, as long as you can drive a tank or pilot a plane or well, whatever you will always contribute to the game. You just have to specialize a little more.

The more levels you get the more versatile you get, that will be all. I had a lvl 5 guy on the american servers spec'd for nothing but tank driving. Had just as awesome a time as the max level guy i had on the Europe servers.

Yes PS1 is still running, only on one server mind and it's USA based, tho I still ping < 70 to it.

Think PS2 will be fairly casual friendly, armour/kit will not make a big difference, so time spent in game should not make a big difference, join a outfit and you will be fine.

Thanks for the replies.

Sounds good as one of the big issues I had playing WoW and Rift was that my rather obsessive mates quickly outpaced me in levels or were very much into raiding at certain times each week.
 
Beta key sent to Deific via trust. Bit surprised he was the only one that asked for it :o

Starting to think NC is the way :eek:

This of course is purely for non playing issues, as I haven't played the game yet.
