*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

As this is F2P, how many of you will play it free or are you all looking to pay for stuff?

Just wondering what the general consensus is.

I picked up about 3000 Station cash on offer a couple of weeks back for around £8, probably use it to buy 1 or 2 vehicle weapons at the start and then some customisations. The rest I will probably just play and unlock them as it comes, if SoE continue to interact and listen to the community after launch i will probably throw some more money down for making a rather epic game.

1 shot sniper kills.
Stealth classes with shotguns.
Overpowered Air Units.
Solo gameplay taking precedence over team game play mechanics.
Automatic Health Regen.
Infantry Units that can take 3 tank shells to the face.
Tanks that die to 2 infantry fired rockets.
Invisible tanks.
Invisble planes.
Instant ejection from vehicles.

Retarded Players.
A F2P Model that has quickly and aggresivley turned into a PayToWin Model.
Last minute changes to core mechanics and weapon systems.
Lack of faction representation and balance.

Its a great game , but there are many reasons not to like it.

Take it you haven't actually played it then :)

In my mind P2W is very cut and dry and it's basically: "Can you buy game changing items/skill that are (virtually) unobtainable by a F2P player?"

In PS2 I think the answer really is no. Sure it gives you great timesaving boost but nothing more.

+1 - really, if you join anytime after the next few months you won be able to tell who has paid and who hasnt.

Nope talking rubbish. That would be true if his post wasn't pure fantasy.

There's a fair few parts of his post that aren't fantasy. Some of those items have now been changed.

I personally do not believe it's ready for a release to the public, there are too many bugs and glitches. (Simple things like spawning, and your vehicle falling through the floor).

For me personally, the only thing that would really affect my view of the game is :

Crashing

It winds me up no end, having a fully stable machine and having the game crash due to the code in the game really isn't good. So far while it bugs me I can step back and say Beta is Beta

I can forgive underpowered/overpowered weapons, spawn bugs, invisible vehicles etc. but if it crashes like it has been doing on release that will royally annoy me! Hopefully they have a handle on that issue for launch.

whats performance like now , just watached a vid from totalbiscuit & he said it was crap that was back in october though ;)

Personally, it's pretty good. I'm not all that demanding though, on HighI get 40 - 100 FPS, probably dropping to 30FPS in mega heavy fighting and I think that's fine for me personally.

Talking rubbish? If only.

Invisible tanks.
Invisble planes.
Automatic Health Regen.

They're 3 straight away from his post that are accurate, how is that "pure fantasy"? Oh right, yeah, it's not.

Why do they have to stop it tonight :(

Wish they kept it going through the weekend, then launch it on Friday of next week or something.

Is it stopping tonight? Bah humbug.

edit - a 2gb update? seriously, is it worth it.

Guess it depends how fast your internet is and how much you intend on playing tonight; servers should go down tomorrow morning around 7-8am. Might be worth getting a final taste of how the game is likely to play / what bugs to expect on release.

Lol.
Ive been playing almost every day for the past 5 months.
I listed a small number of items, compared to the massive list of problems, bugs and issues the game has right now this second.
All the things I listed in the top part of my post have happened to me, or affected my squads play within the last 2 weeks.

The beta servers are switched off tonight. The game goes "live" in 4 days.
And yet, just off the top of my head from todays play so far. You cant spawn MBTs other than at WGs on Esamir, the Vulcan and Maruader weapons have suddenly been given last minute alterations, totaly switching roles and ground based AA rockets are suddenly just not working a lot of the time. Oh yes, and they just altered the mines system so not all classes can use all the mines. I understand what betas are for and ive been helping test it for months because I want an awesomesauce game, but no sensible company makes such sweeping changes 4 days before live, 1 day before disabling the beta servers, when you have had testers for 6 months+.

On day 1 using the pounds in my pocket I can buy a ground lockon rocket launcher and an Air Lock on rocket launcher. Both a direct upgrade from the standard one.
On day 1 I can buy the Vulcan, Maruader and Halberd for the MBT all direct upgrades from the Basalisk. All capable of damaging everything in the game.
On day 1 I can buy a new sniper rifle allowing me to do 1 shot kills, instead of needing 5.
While I agree, you could argue thats not Pay2Win, its certainly Pay2SaveTime and gives you an easier time when compared to the chap spending no dollars. More kills and less deaths is more xp and thus more certs. Allowing you to spend ingame certs on scopes, resistance sheilds and upgrades for the guns you purchased all while hes grinding to buy the guns.

When I spoke about representation I meant from SOE. Every command chat video we get is Higby and TRay. Favouring the NC and VS, Every single one. They even had a beta super-squad "event" , it was NC and VS only.

As I said , it is a great game, but some people need to stop looking through rose tinted specs.

Excuse me good sir, but why oh why would you expect there to be any bugs?
