!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

The reason the recommendations are so low is because the textures are downsized/compressed a lot because of consoles. They couldn't do consoles and pc's seperately so console took priority. We was going to have much higher details but they couldn't do it.

Theyve said that they will at some point release a level done in high res assets. Pity they just can't release a set of ultra res textures for the game, i think the download size for those would be insane.

I think he he said he would love to do it, Not they would. I still hope it happens, he has a way of making things happen like the adaptive vsync we will be getting.

We'll have to wait and see. No doubt even after (if) they release high res texture packs the modders will try to get as much as they can from it.

I like shooting things, but the last couple of ID games have been rubbish, so I'm not spending any money on it until some user reviews start coming in.

PS3 has bluray so the game can easily fit on one disc :D

:DGotta love the ps3 for that reason. I'm just pondering tho why it's 22Gb textures, cut scenes, speaking must be something taking up all that space. Maybe it's 1 Gb for the landscapes and character and 21Gb of ways to make someone bleed :D

Well got 7.2GB into the pre-load yesterday and then my good old 8800GTX decided to choose that point to die :(
GTX460 ordered from OcUK (yea for weekly deals). Just need for it to turn up tomorrow so I can get the pre-load finished before Friday...

But reading the texture data from a Bluray disc will be a lot slower than a DVD.

They recommend an install on consoles to speed up streaming of textures while playing, I reckon that's going to take 2 hours on a PS3. It took 45 minutes to an install of GT5 and the load times are still rubbish.

I'm glad GT5 is the only console game I play.

I think they definately will at some point, theyve already admitted targeting console specs was a mistake in hindsight. Releasing a hi res pack just shows the engine in a better light :)

Yup, apparently the disc goes mad reading textures, its mentioned in the keynote.

I think they got permission to install onto the PS3 though.

Im not sure what they meant by that statement, MGS4 also installed to the PS3, when i owned a ps3 i think quite a few games installed to the drive.

I think motorstorm also installed to the drive, not sure though that was years back :p

They got permission to get extra memory back from the OS, I think.

Most console games come with an option to install some data onto the hard drive to speed up loading times and avoiding reading from the disk during play.
