!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

A tweak someone mentioned on the Steam forums is that:

"fs_cachepath" var points to "%appdata%\..\Local\id Software\Rage" (Vista/Win7 obviously) which doesn't exist, if you create it then it'll help. When the guy made the folder and ran the game he started seeing texture caching files up to a maximum of what fc_maxcachememoryMB was set at appearing in that folder.

Not sure if it'll help though

Bleek it should be fine, I think it's an x86 .exe.

Well you could argue it should be more thoroughly tested to work with current drivers?

Like I say, I've never had any issues prior to this game.

I'll give that update a try and see if it works on WinXP (no jeering please, I like XP).

I can't really deduce if it does work with anything else as I don't have rage as of yet. Sorry.

Other than it may work if it's x86, as I doubt they would release a driver that's x64 only. :\ I could be wrong though.

Damned shame you actually had to type no jeering. :(

Yeah, I got it. I guess I was being a bit of a troll :p

Oh right... lol. The internet can make it difficult to determine the meaning behind what someone says ;) That's my excuse anyway!

Hmmm... it's looking a bit hostile out there:

Official RAGE Forums

Apparently it's all kicking off over at the Steam RAGE forum too... can't link to it though as all Steam stuff is blocked here at work :(

Some people are definitely very unhappy.

The Steam forum is about as drama filled as you would expect really :/

Most of the real issues seem to be with ATI cards (sigh@my 6970) though a lot of people are whining about the lack of in game graphical options. Personally as this is an id game I will be going straight to the config files anyhow and never expected there to be that much in the in-game interface.

Unlocked via vpn and played a little.
Whilst it runs really smooth and looks nice (aside from the texture popup) i'm getting some serious artifacting which seems to be a common issue with no fix. Really kills the immersion its that bad so think I'm going to wait see if they can fix it, shame as what I played seemed fun. New catalyst did nothing to fix it either.

What card do you have delk?

AMD have a specific driver update for RAGE which was released yesterday.

Ezyrider has linked it up above.

I've just seen the Gamespot review, as I'm sure many of you already have, and even though it gives the Xbox 360 footage, it still looks really graphically impressive. Doom 4 should therefore be unreal, or not as the case maybe. :D

Same - new CAT didn't change anything, actually increased glitches for me!

The Steam forums are always like that with any reasonably big release. You get the trolls flaming without any reason, the people that probably can't dress themselves let alone fix the simplest of issues themselves, and then more dramaqueens that Hollywood. :p

As FT says. I'd game? Straight to the config files.

biggest texture pop in i've seen so far is going up a ladder onto a visa onmy way to get some vechile parts and haveing want seemed like an entire landscape pop in really kills the immersion plus some textures are just poor. Its still fun and everything just graphicly a mixed bag. Nvidia here.

edit they don't popin its the transistion from low res textures to high res seems to actually have a view distance.

Ok after stopping play and taking a quick wonder around the forums this appears to be an issue with the PC release regardless of CPU or GPU, Crossfire and SLI.

Oh dear.

This why why I am glad I skipped this. Who cares how pretty it is (if your not having issues with the GPU transcoding most in the US are!):

"So, just to sum up my nine plus hours with the game so far:
•No story to speak of
•No characters that make an impression
•Linear
•Broken save system
•Dull mechanics
•Tedious quests
•Weak shooting
•Stock weapons
•Racing is fun
•Minigames are enjoyable
•Very pretty"

There are as many (or more) positive reviews there are negative. Your weird personal vendetta against this game is kind of puzzling.
