***Official Reading 2009 Thread***

sorry they didn't get daphne and celeste and 50 cent back either.

btw if anyone has a spare weekend ticket for reading that they don't want to stick on ebay (possibly?), i'm on the lookout for one for a friend, willing to pay a little higher than face value obviously!

thanking you muchly!

^^ Those were very funny. Also "The Rasmus" made me laugh when the bassist got bottled with **** and it broke his guitar. He stormed off and after 2 songs they were done :D

Still, lineup this year is a true kick in the balls if you ask me.

There's a breakdown on the forums about 2008 vs 2009 so i would post my personal preferences if we stuck just to main stage (very unlikely). Even though there's a fair few more bands i'm interested in this year, I think RATM might tip the balance for last year

2008 vs 2009

FRIDAY

Kings Of Leon vs. The Killers (don't care about either)
Kaiser Chiefs vs. Bloc Party (same as above)
Placebo vs. The Raconteurs (either one is good for me)
Fall Out Boy vs. We Are Scientists (not a huge fan of either)
Deftones vs. Dirty Pretty Things (deftones for sure!)
Funeral For A Friend vs. Editors (probably more inclined to FFAF)

SATURDAY

Arctic Monkeys vs. Metallica (Metallica)
The Prodigy vs. Tenacious D (prodigy)
Maximo Park vs. Feeder (fan of both but maximo park are better)
Ian Brown vs. Avenged Sevenfold (Avenged Sevenfold)
The Courteeners vs. Dropkick Murphys (dropkick murphys)
Enter Shikari vs. Plain White T's (Enter Shikari)
Eagles Of Death Metal vs. Alexisonfire (alexisonfire)

SUNDAY

Radiohead vs. Rage Against The Machine (either one for me)
Bloc Party vs. Queens Of The Stone Age (QOTSA)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs vs. The Fratellis (YYYs)
Vampire Weekend vs. The Enemy (Vampire Weekend)
Brand New vs. Biffy Clyro (Brand New)

From what I have heard Kaiser Chiefs are dreadfullll live, anyone actually seen then?

Also with FOB it shuld be interesting to see what kind of reception they get considering most people going are past the 'emo 14 year-old' stage.

FOB put on a good show regardless of the age of the crowd and I'm sure most will enjoy it. I'm surprised they're not further up the bill actually!

Kaisers are terrible live and I can't understand why events still book them despite this glaring observation.

Only 5 bands on the first announcement that I would like to see. I really enjoyed Reading in 2004 & 2007 but to me this lineup is bad, its a shame because its my favourite UK festival. I'm sure some decent more varied bands will be added to make the lineup a lot better but I'm just glad I wasn't planning on doing Reading this year.

Enter Shikari vs. Plain White T's (Enter Shikari)

Shikari on an open stage though? The atmosphere won't be anywhere near as good as it would be in a tent. I'm not saying Plain White T's are good, but they're more of a main stage, daytime band. No real pressure on the crowd to go crazy and all the people waiting at the front get a bit more relaxation time.

agreed with that but i'm merely saying i would prefer to see enter shikari on the main stage over plain white T's.

I think in reality there are very few bands that can pull off a big stage performance

i've seen the kaiser chiefs live back in 2003, (line up was something like dogs, kaiser chiefs, bloc party and the killers) - i enjoyed it, highly energetic but since then my taste in music has changed and their new albums, i'm not too fussed about - will be catching someone else at that time most likely.

Must have been poor in 2003 when Employment wasn't released until 2005.

What was the setlist like? Hot Fuss was also 2004 and Silent Alarm early 2005, I think, so you must have seen those bands before anyone really knew about them that much! Having them all play together when they were relativley unknown must have been quite a gig!

Yes, because bands don't play good music live until they release an album that sells 5 times platinum . The bands may have played gigs before they released their large selling albums however they would have still played songs from them so I would assume the set lists would have been quite good.

hmm well I've got tickets, however the person who was having the other has dipped out so unless I can find someone else looks like I'm going on my own lol.

Their first albums. Released or not, they are their first albums. Didn't mention about live music either, as Kaiser Chiefs fail hard.

So I am indeed correct in finding it strange that he went to a gig where 3 big bands appeared all at the same time (One of them being from America) in a venue where all were unknown but would later become big stuff and release "platinum" albums 2 years later.

So essentially he saw 3 well known bands, about 2 years before any of them were "known" and had released any albums. Surely a huge coincidence they all played at the same gig either being "unknown".

The year seems wrong, that is all.
