***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

Nope :) I was at the start of the path to the hag's cottage I think, and started up the mountain there, ended up above shadefall keep. I was trying to skirt around a tower with a big gross white spider thing on top, and nearby slipped down onto a wall with a small sparkly plaque on it, that's what transported me.

The puzzle was a bit annoying, you have to move shields on a wall to match a pattern in the room above.

Also - 50 and 30 tom, how?! I've been sick all week and I'm only 26 :p

Edit - looking at the map, it's quite possible the above directions are completely wrong :D

There is one puzzle in every single zone where the drop scales between the level range for that zone :) They are all on youtube.

Oh and sleepery ive been playing since the 24th of feb :) Quite a few people have 50's and alts now.

finally think im a bit burnt out :p got one 50, and one 30, i cant take levelling anymore the quests are so brutally boring, worse than TBC quests, but i have enjoyed doing dungeons with my guild and pvp, just dont think im gonna sub past the free month.

The quests wont bother me to be honest, its all about who you do it with, back in the early days of Daoc there were no quests of note and the only way to level up in pve was to find a nice spot with mobs, sit there with some mates and just pull the mobs over and over for hour after hour. Strangely though it was a right hoot just chilling out and pulling mobs whilst having a laugh with mates. :)

loved it played everday since early preorder didt go hardcore so not to burn out lvl 26, cant bear to sign in now very boring for me, good that a lot of people still enjoy it. Cant think of anything bad just boring :(.

I'll give my low down of this. I was addicted to the game up until 2 days ago.

I stayed up for 72 hours playing it followed by a few hours sleep then a 48 hour stint then another 48 hour stint. So yea' I was really in to it. The day I hit 50 was great, PvP was instant! It was amazing, I did R1-R2 PvP in a day and that was with losing 9/10 WFs. Then I tried a bit of PvE, got a little bored as I had grinded every instance until the exp was rubbish and then grinded mobs, so it was the same instance over and over again. PvP queues went from instant up to about 20 mins a queue. So I tried world PvP. Now I love griefing and I love ganking but I got a little bit bored of it as I wasn't really gaining anything from it.

So one night I saw a shout - they were trying to down a boss in the 20 man raid. No one knew tactics, the Americans had killed it in beta but no one had killed the boss in retail. We downed the boss that night and it was a great feeling being "a world first." No one really knew the tactics and we had to work them out. It was a lot of fun. However it was many guilds coming together as one to do this.

PvP queues... I don't want to wait 10-20 mins for PvP queues. Queue for 10-20 mins, win in 2 mins that's it.

By the time I get on from work most people have already done the experts and are saved to most and I really don't feel the need to PvE.

I loved the game, I loved the souls and the different trees and made some really good soul builds, I'm normally top single target DPS and I'm in PvP gear which if you don't know is rubbish for damage as it's all about HP on that gear.

I logged in yesterday, did my daily crafting quests and logged out. I just can't bare to log in anymore.

I'm not saying the game is bad at all, just I'm bored.

Thanks for your insight cHk4, that makes two people very bored at around the sametime on one forum with obviously not that many Rift players, not great.

What mmo betters this in your opinion cHk4? Can you see how they can make this much better over time, or is it the way the core game works thats boring? Does the crafting require any skill? If you've played and crafted in Everquest 2, how does this compare?

I'd much appreciate your opinions here.

Tombstone,

I've got the game here unopened, and am on the verge of signing up.

Can you let me know what your first impressions are please, before I sign up?

Thanks

Will do, am at work at the moment , so will need to get home and download the client from somewhere first (50mb line though so hopefully wont take long). I will be as objective as possible (I am of the UO/Daoc tastes but will view it without a slant if I can). It will also only be a view of the earlier levels as I dont want to overuse the account :)

Hi Dave, no problem.

I will not lie about my views but I have a track record with games in hitting max level/being the best then getting bored and quitting. I did the same with Aion I was the 4th person to hit 50 and left 6 weeks after and BoI I was top 10 in level and rank 1 in PvP but got bored and quit.

While my views are what I said many people in my guild are super happy with the game and loving it. They say there is a great deal of variety and they can't see them selfs getting bored anytime soon.

I'm a PvPer - that's the only reason I play games, my first opinions of the game started to die when I hit 50 and I had a level 50 warrior 2 shot me over and over and over again. I have no chance to kill this person yet they can kill me. I think what really done it for me is the class imbalance but RIFT have said they're not going to nerf classes heavily due to PvP it's more focused around PvE. I will try and find the source if you want but it will mean searching through lots of posts -.-.

They have plenty of content I think, every instance you do in the game has a expert version which has 3 new bosses. Some are really tough and actually really challenging. They have T1 and T2 dungeons. T1 is for your fresh level 50s and T2 is for geared out 50s. Example a T1 Bow is 32.5 DPS (iir) my T2 bow is 36DPS. In that game it's a substantial amount. Once you're then geared up you have a 10/20 man instance which is good fun, the bosses seem challenging.

I think if your main focus is PvP then you might be slightly disappointed. Albeit the PvP is actually rather fun apart from the imbalance.

The RIFTs in the game are fun and the zone events are a blast and I love them. You make a lot of money and other currency and can get blue/purple stones which better your character.

I know I've not mentioned what games I think are better and this is due to me having a very weird taste in MMOs. But I hope I've given a fair opinion of the game.

Hi mate, you're welcome to use the account as much as you want. Unless I feel like playing ( which tbh I doubt ) any items/gold etc you make if you do decide to play you can send on to your new char. If you want also let me know what time you're logging off tonight and on my main I'll craft you some bags and send you them (Think I have enough materials).

I never got to play DAoC unfortunately but I do know it was underrated and really should have survived.

I hope you enjoy it, and thanks :)

In its prime it was one of the best MMOs I ever played, never quite got advertised much which didnt help and as so often happens with MMOs they shot themselves in the foot badly with a particular "expansion" (ToA) , crikey, how often do we see an MMO release an expansion which messes it up !

I must admit I love interesting worlds which give you moments of awe when you look across a mountain range or something, I guess a world you can get lost in.

I am more of a PVE player then a PvP player I must admit. At the sametime when I hit a level cap and no longer want to do PvE stuff but still want to better my chars gear etc. basically end of game content I have found lacking in most mmo's I've played, unless they have a very interesting distraction, crafting for example(which is rubbish in WoW imo). WoW for example, I found unplayable when I hit the cap, all I got were RAID requests I didn't qualify for due to me lacking the gear.

So end of game content for a non-PvPer, can you see it being better then WoW in the future (it's a bit early to say now I guess)? Isthe community decent? I heard it wasn't so hot...

Soz for all the questions, but if I start playing this it will stop me from playing other games as I spend a lot of time on a mmo I currently have going because of the nature of most of them.

Thanks again :)

As a side note, I also have DC Universe unopened as this might appeal to me more as it is less hardcore perhaps, this is another reason why I'm undecided.

Thanks, I'll throw you a mail when I log off, if I get to log on that is, depends how long the client takes I guess !

Hmm think if i had to choose i would say FFXI online, but have not played that about 5 years, i have got every single major mmo in the past 5 years WOW, conan, aion, war.....think it more me getting an old phart then the games tbh, i would still play FFXI if the gfx were decent i guess

Thanks, so is there just less variety in Rift iyo(as I know there is a lot of variety in FFXI)?

No worries mate

Yes, I must admit I think the game does look beautiful in places and for a few moments at times I was thinking... Wow this does look nice. But that doesn't really last long as I've been spoilt by TERA which I think is amazing graphically.

Yea, I think by the time you hit 50 there will be a lot more level 50s and there will be a lot quicker PvP queues which will be nice. However once you hit max rank in PvP there is little to no point in PvPing.

End game content is not bad, all the bosses have a chance to drop purples ( or at least half in the experts ) and because there is normally more than one of your class in a group this can take a while to gear you out. I've run 4 runs of the same instance and a sword has dropped every time and every time I lost! There are dailies to do to grind rep and several world raid bosses which can be fun. The RIFT stuff is great fun and the invasions add a laugh to the game as if on a PvP server it's PvPvE kind of thing and it's a laugh as it's on huge scale.

I never bother with proffesions in any game but this I've got two to max and I found them really easy to level. RAIDS you will more than likely still have an issue with however, T1/T2 instances should be fine and RIFTS you should be fine as RIFTS are normally public groups.

You know, I'm a troll. I love trolling, I love flaming I just like it. This game I've never seen so many trolls in one place ( server I'm playing any way ) everyone seems quick to flame someone or humiliate them in public should they have a problem. It does make me laugh but you know it's not everyone's cup of tea and many people seem to have stopped talking in global due to it.

I mean currently the expert dungeons take from 1-2 hours which is a rather long time and I would say there is about 10 of them so you will not be able to complete them all. Once you are fully geared I guess you have raiding to do but if you're not in a guild that raids I guess that's where it ends, unless you want to quest for money grind rep for better items.

Like WoW they have tokens but for this it's when you kill a boss you get a token ( expert mode ) 20 + and you can buy a purple. Purple is just a color in this game I've not got any new items in about a week and I'm 2 items short of being fully epic.

I found DCUO fun but played it for 2 days.

Thanks a lot, your posts have been very useful and I'm grateful :)

I think I'm going to give it a blast:

+ Overall, I think it has more postitives then negatives for my style of play.
+ It sounds like it is already a pretty competant game after just being released, which is a good sign for the future, perhaps.
+ I got it for £17.89, so it isn't much of a financial risk
+ I think it is defo worth trying before DC Universe, which cost £24.99 and doesn't sound like it's a proper mmo

- It's a bit worrying how fast you can reach level cap
- It's a bit worrying that there seems to be a case of boredom on a rather large scale.

Thanks, anytime you need a heads up on a game you haven't played but I have, feel free to ask :)
