***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

For me, Rift is the best MMO in a long time. All I have to do now is find a decent guild.

I've played WoW for probably about five years solid and, much as I was enjoying having a level 90 toon and a couple of alts also well on their way, the constant running of dailies for rep was absolutely crushing my will to return.

I saw Rift mentioned on a blog last week and thought I'd give it a go, not really expecting much for a F2P after the dismal Aion. Installed it on Friday night around half-ten, played until I was practically falling asleep over the keyboard (sometime after 2am) and then logged in again at 5.30am. No game has had me doing that in a while! Come to think of it, I don't think I've been to bed before 1.30am since then ...

Absolutely having a blast with this at the moment - it has all the standard MMORPG elements, looks gorgeous and is just flat out fun. I've stumped up a fiver () for some REX mainly to purchase some bigger bags, but questing in itself has been quite lucrative and closing rifts in Instant Adventure mode has brought in a lot of the planar currency - I got my Cleric a new mace last night using these, way better than current quest-level weapons.

My favourite toon at the moment is my Cleric - can't remember which sub-spec, but he basically beats the snot out of stuff with a huge two-handed hammer or mace, which is hugely therapeutic. My altoholism has started already, as I also have a hunter, warrior and mage under way.

It isn't that I've gone off WoW - it's still the model by which all MMOs should be judged - but it's taken trying something else to make me begin to realise that I'm shelling out £8.99 a month on something which I'm not actually enjoying as much as I used to, versus Rift which costs as much as I want it to cost and has put the fun element back.

That'll be the Druid / Shaman trees. Lots of fun to be had and you used to be able to (been ages since I played) macro your entire rotation to a single key, since everything had something above the GCD + a few off the GCD procs.

Yeah, one of my hammer blows does lightning damage over time, which sounds pretty shamanic! That's another thing I prefer about Rift - the full talent trees and the scope for customising, rather than the 'make a choice every 15 levels' model that WoW currently uses.

Will look into macros, although I'm sure they'd have closed the just-spam-a-single-key loophole ;)

But that put a lot of people off Rift mate. Just smashing one button gets a bit tiresome but still a great mmo though!

Another late one last night :D - played until 2am again, having altered my talent trees to those for a Holy Fire Shaman.

Most if it is pure Shaman, but with a bit of Purifier and Justicar - found it on the Rift forums and it's supposedly the mutt's nuts at later levels ... loads of damage reflected back at the mob and heals on me for successful weapon strikes.

Was just shy of level 20 when I went to bed - from what I've been reading, I can start doing dungeons/instances at 20, can't I?

Im pretty sure the dungeons were available from lv15 onwards. They're very different from WoW back when I played it, tanks don't have to put a lot of effort in to hold aggro so you can pretty much aoe to your hearts content. They're also very quick by comparison.

Ah right, may well be the case - same as WoW then. To be honest I hadn't actually had a nose around the menus in-game specifically looking for it, as up until now just questing/Instant Adventure was great fun in itself.

As it happens, I did join the LFG queue last night after hitting level 20, but was playing quite late again and it took the best part of an hour to form a group - annoyingly, it popped up the 'group ready' window literally a couple of minutes before Trion took the server down for a 45-minute maintenance. With that in mind, I figured I'd better just park my arse in a town and logged off for the night.

What roles are you queuing as? If its damage you will have difficulty finding a group. Tanks have it easiest and you usually find a group straight away, healers also have it quite easy. You can queue for multiple roles provided you have the right specs, I wouldn't advise queuing as a tank without a set of stamina heavy gear, but you can still be a healer with a set of damage gear.

The good thing about this game is you can create multiple specs for a small fee and as a cleric you can be good at EVERYTHING provided you have the gear and the right spec for it. I have 5 specs for my rogue, but I generally only use 3 of them.

just wanted to say, I was looking for a game to play after being bored out of my mind for ages. Your post had a lot of similarities to me and i've been looking for a good mmorpg for the longest time. I'm currently downloading rift and gonna give it a go, so thanks!

Its not bad for a F2p, the F2p model is quite good you dont have to sepnd real cash to get items, of course getting plat is still tiresome, currently running a lvl 53 rogue and barley get over 100 plat before i have to go a spend it in crafting mats, also the lfg for random dungeons can take awhile, busy doing random elites but have waited well over 2hrs for a grp, but at least you can still do quest and such whilst ur waiting.
